Welcome to our weekly Bulletin. I hope that the Dads and Grandads had a fantastic Father’s Day with your families. If you were unable to be with families, I hope you took time out to reflect on how wonderful Families are and that you did get to speak to them.
This week our lovely Judy Rutter passed away after a long battle with Cancer. Judy will be greatly missed by us all. She was a mine of information, about many things, and her passions were her Family and the Environment. She got us collecting bottles and cans as well as ensuring that the funds we collected, through recycling, went to Club funds. We have a Surf Riders BBQ at Ashmore on October 15th. We will be able join the planting teams and carry out another one of Judy’s passions – plants, trees and flowers – that attract bees. Rest in Peace Judy.
Guest Speakers - Community House Managers
On Monday night we had two of the three local Community House Managers join us. Prue from Torquay Community House was unable to attend due to illness. However, Julie, from Anglesea, and Wendy, from Winchelsea, provided us with a great overview of their Community Houses, plus overall, all Community Houses. The three local Houses received funds from the Rotary at the end of the Rotary Year. The ladies also explained how they had spent the money – Digital Literacy. In this day and age, a necessary skill we need. They will help the older generation with AI and how to determine if emails etc. are scams. Something we can all use.
Some of the Survey results were discussed, and a couple will be taken to the Board Meeting on Monday night, to determine if we make any changes.
Lifeline Out of the Shadow Walk
On Thursday, 12 of us participated in the Lifeline Out of the Shadow Walk, on World Suicide Prevention Day. It was a beautiful Day for a walk along The Esplanade. We could reflect on the lives of those who could not see any way out of their huge black hole and so took their own life. I think we all know someone who has taken their own life and know those who are left behind. We were there to also support Rotarian Martin.
