Vice President's Message 25 October 2025
Michael Reed
Our family was a little smaller on Monday evening -
We were joined by Katrina Walia, our exchange student Leo and our two guest speakers Dr Shelley Walder and Margaret Nash.
It seems the cancelling of last Sunday's Cowrie Market 'allowed' those on the roster to participate in other activities .... mainly home duties and gardening with the odd golf game ....
Please folks - can you all have a look at the BBQ Roster - there is a few already we have committed to with possibly more to come.
We need everyone to have a look and pop your name down where you can.
Please see either Richard Hawker or Linda Neale for further information.
It is really good to see Leo has been to some BBQ's, and eager to do more! Word has it he is a pretty good chef!!
This is another great way to catch up and chat with Leo in a more relaxed environment.
Ben tells us that Leo's English is coming along really well and is much better than most members Italian!
A big shout out to Maggie Isom.
Maggie turned 80 last Wednesday (22nd October) .... another Octogenarian!
Congratulations Maggie. Hope you enjoyed (possibly still enjoying?) your celebrations.
Very best wishes from us all.
Neil announced the Club AGM for 24th November.
This has been in the bulletin and you can all expect further information on this.
This is the time we need people to consider and nominate to join the board for 2026/27.
I am so pleased to say, we have some nominations in, but need more places filled.
Please contact Secretary Neil for further information.
Richard spoke on the Motor Show on Sunday 8th February 2026.
As we know, this is a huge day for our club. Richard has asked everyone to please mark this day in your diary. If you are not available, please let Richard know.
If Richard or the Motor Show committee do not hear from you - the expectation is you will be there and will have tasks allocated.
For any further information contact Richard.
Linda and the Community Service Team are looking at monthly focus areas.
Linda will give us details each month on the focus and what we need to do.
Over to our guest speakers ...... Dr Shelley Walder and Margaret Nash from Surfcoast Skin Cancer Clinic, speaking on 'Sun and Skin'.
Many of us are now 'paying the price' for all the years we spent outside and at the beach in the sun.
Due to privacy reasons, we cannot publish any photos of the presentation .... you had to be there!
An interesting statistic is the first 15 years of your life sets your skin 'program' up for your life.
It is recommended you have (at least) an annual check up - especially if you have had a skin spot or skin cancer removal ... or a family history of melanoma.
See you next Monday!
Cheers
Michael

Spring Cleaning and Decluttering Exercise – a Community Service and Environment Project
Are you considering decluttering your homes, when you are doing your spring cleaning?
We would like to commence a small project to help this happen. We will keep a record of how much we keep out of landfill and we repurpose to great causes, or to recycle.
During November we will collect any old eye glasses you have and we will take them to a collection centre. Open those drawers that have long been somewhere you put things no longer in use, and see if there are pairs of Eye Glasses in there
During December our focus will be on eWaste. Most of us have old cords, phones, laptops etc. put away because - what will we do with them? We will take them to an eWaste collection point
January – well let’s see if we can help you clean out those book shelves. Please take the books to our Book Fair and we will raise valuable funds for our club’s fund-raising projects. If you are unable to take them to the book fair, please let me know.
I am happy to organise a table it if anyone is interested, we have two tables of ten going at present from the community, please let me know if you would like to join in? There are many tables still available.

The United Nation’s international campaign 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, takes place each year from 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) until 10 December (International Human Rights Day).
25th November 2025, at 9am, The Rotary Club of Torquay in conjunction with Surf Coast Council and The Community House, will be walking from the Torquay Surf Life Saving Club to Zeally Bay Car Park. This walk is to commence the 16 Days of Activision.
We are organising for some speeches by key local personnel, to be held at the completion of the walk.
We would love to have as many males as possible, help us to raise awareness about this disastrous scourge that is part of our society.
Locally, it is kept, very much under wraps, but let us see if we can help these people seek help or at least know where they can receive help and assistance.
I wish to formally advise all members of the Torquay Rotary Club that our Annual General Meeting is scheduled to be held at Kithbrooke Country Club on Monday 24th November at 6.30pm.
