Monday evening saw our regular meeting transferred to the Henderson residence. We held an old fashioned “fireside chat” with 13 members and Leo. A number of different topics were discussed. During winter there may be other meetings with low attendance so the concept of meeting at Kithbrooke and self catering was examined – and thought to be a workable idea but hopefully will not required.

Amanda told the group about how she accidently discovered the Barwon Sports Academy and how we have subsequently chosen a candidate for RYLA. They mentor elite sports people but not everyone can reach the pinnacle of their desired sport, and then can struggle as they try and restructure their lives. RYLA should be an excellent guidance vehicle for such young people. Cameron Loftus, the CEO of BSA, is our guest speaker next Monday.

Linda Neale spoke about how Blaze Aid are now stretched for volunteers as there are a number of locations needing help following the January bush fires. She took us through a typical day at a “camp” and explained how fulfilling it is to do a hands on project where, at the end of the day, you can look back and see the fence you have repaired or built. 

We wished a Happy Birthday to Gerard for the 11th April and then a birthday cake was produced for Leo who turns 18 on Saturday. Leo leaves on his Exchange Student Safari this week to WA, so won’t be here for his big day.

We all had a great evening and it was agreed that more Fireside Chat gatherings need to be included into the Club Program.
