Volunteer Services at Barwon Health is urgently seeking additional volunteers to join our Volunteer Patient Transport Program.
We currently have extensive vacancies across our driver roster, which is impacting our ability to provide transport to patients who rely on this service to attend essential appointments. Unfortunately, we are increasingly having to turn away members of our community who are among our most vulnerable and have limited transport options.
We are asking our existing Palliative care volunteers to consider whether they, or someone they know within our organisation, may be able to assist.
About the Volunteer Patient Transport Program
Our volunteer drivers provide safe, friendly and reliable transport for Barwon Health patients travelling to and from appointments at:
- University Hospital Geelong
- Barwon Health North
- McKellar Centre
- Newcomb Community Health Centre
The service operates Monday to Friday, generally between 8:00am and 4:00pm, with shifts varying depending on patient appointments.
Our drivers play an incredibly important role in helping patients access their healthcare. For some patients, having a volunteer driver means the difference between being able to attend an appointment or having to cancel it.
What we are looking for
We are particularly seeking volunteers who can commit to one regular day each week or fortnight or who are happy to join in a casual basis to help the program out!

Monday - 3 Vacant shifts
Tuesday - 3 Vacant Shifts
Wednesday - 2 Vacant Shifts
Thursday - 1 Vacant shift
Friday - 1 Vacant Shift
Requirements
Volunteers must have:
- A current Australian Driving Licence
You will not be expected to know everything from day one. Comprehensive onboarding, training and buddy shifts are provided, with ongoing support from Volunteer Services and our clinical teams.
All Barwon Health volunteer already onboarded and will be able to easily pick up a shift and assist in the program with minimum onboarding requirements.
