President's Report No 15

What an action packed and informative evening the 30 of us had online on Monday.
It was great to be joined by District Governor John Clue, and four members from the Rotary Club of Rizal West – Joan, Marlon, Cherry (also known as Ino) and ‘our’ Lea.
Ino is the End Polio Chair for The Rotary Club of Rizal West, and very keen to have their club involved in our End Polio activities, and District Meeting later this month.
I put up on our Facebook Page, activities they are doing in Rizal West – you want to have a look.
You need to vote for the one with your President in!!! (Yes, Lea had me as her ‘patient’ in her video) The video with the most votes wins a prize …….. Go Lea!

Joan is the International Director and promoted the concert Rizal West Rotary Club are putting on, on the 23rd of October – and treated us to one of the songs Joan performed last year with one of her fellow Rotarians.
I sent a detailed email our about this concert last Tuesday – please see that email for details, payment, and bookings ….. you only have until next Tuesday (19th Oct.) to register via the Trybookings page.

We welcomed Daryl Lee to the club!
Daryl has transferred from the Rotary Club of Essendon North to The Rotary Club of Torquay.
A big Welcome Daryl. When we can meet Face to Face, we will welcome Daryl ‘in person’ to our club.
Daryl has already indicated the areas and committees he wishes to be part of.
Great to have you onboard Daryl.

Jan Emmett has stepped down as our Club Service Director.
Amanda Hough has stepped into this role, for the remainder of this Rotary Year.
Jan will continue to look after Programs and be our club’s Welfare Officer.
Amanda will be the Director or Chair of Club Service.
These two girls will work together…… in perfect harmony!

We have all ‘lifted our lids’ to this very worthwhile cause.
Our donation site is still active, so please consider making a donation to Mental Health research.
Here is the TryBookings donation site for our club.

‘Us members’ who have registered, and are fulfilling our commitments, walking our nominated distances for the End Polio walking month are going well, and hopefully feeling better after all the exercise?
Whether walking or not – you may consider making a donation or sponsoring one of our members – and support them, and this great cause – to end Polio.
We have a big End Polio meeting on Monday 25th October, involving our whole District …… Stay Tuned!
Here is the site to go to for your donations to End Polio.

Pass these donation sites around to you family and friends – all funds raised go to the cause!

Rhonda has collected another load of Warm Clothing and delivered some to Food Aid and some to Orange Sky, to help both organisations with the demand for those in need.
I did notice photos of this delivery on our Facebook Page.
Our Member Facebook page is starting to get used by members – this is another way for members to be informed with our club activities, so keep an eye on it!

From my last conversation with Vernon, he is resting at home.
We hope his health continues to improve, and we see him back with us soon.
I know other members are keeping in contact with both Vernon and Charmaine, which they are very appreciative of.

Given further relaxing of Regional Restrictions this Thursday may hopefully allow us to resume Face to Face meetings very soon, maybe as soon as next week. So please watch your email communications.

On Monday we have our Directors, Chairs and coordinators updating us all on the events and programs we have coming up.
Please join us, and see what we have in store …..
See you on our Online Teams meeting then ---

Looking After the Rotary Family

Our club for many years has had a Welfare Officer.
Over recent years, Maggie Isom has looked after this role.  Maggie has stayed connected with members and their families in times of need, has helped out when needed, and kept the club well informed.
This year, Jan Emmett has stepped into this role.

The position of this role can be very extensive…

The main purpose is to stay connected with any member of the club in times of need, and to be aware of the welfare of that member, so that contact can be maintained, and information reported back to the President and the club members as required.

It is the responsibility of the welfare officer to report information that is public knowledge, or the member wishes to be conveyed, about a members’ well-being to the President.
Situations such as - illness, a death or injury in the family, being re-trenched from work or just need assistance in some way.

Although every effort is made to make sure that we all know if a member is unwell, in hospital or had an accident etc., it helps if it is reported asap so that we can maintain a close-knit bond between the member and the club members.

Please, if you know of, or are yourself in a position where you may need any assistance, please let President Michael or Jan Emmett know so they can connect with you.
Thank You…

Whilst on this subject our thoughts have been with Vernon and Charmain D'Souza who have been having a busy time with firstly with Vernon's recent visit to Epworth for some tests, which we all hope went well, followed up with his and Charmaine’s 50th Wedding Anniversary as well as his Birthday… so here are some wishes to the D'Souza's from all of us!heart

Make-Ups......it's Never Been Easier

Here's a challenge for everyone...….in these "different" times in which we are living there are more and more Clubs now holding on-line meetings so now it's easier than it's ever been to do a make-up.smiley

You can do them from the comfort of your own home and you don't even have to get dressed up.laugh

Let's have a club challenge to see who can do a make up form the most interesting city. Be sure to grab a screen shot of your meeting and send to me for the bulletin.

What a great way to meet other Rotarians from around the world and to find out how they are living through the COVID-19 lockdowns.

To make it easy the Rotary Club of Mount Lawley in WA have begun compiling a list of Clubs who are now holding On-Line Meetings to view the list click the link below.

Rotary International & District 9780 Info

Shekhar and Rashi Mehta at their home in Kolkata. Rashi painted the picture Mother and Child, behind her.

When I met Shekhar almost 20 years ago, he was busily manning a booth at the Rotary International Convention. His enthusiasm and energy in showcasing his club’s projects were infectious. A project man myself, I was inspired by the work exhibited at the booth. That casual encounter developed into a strong friendship.

Shekhar is a visionary leader. He always sees things others can’t. He envisaged a way to eradicate illiteracy in India by 2025 and designed the TEACH program (which stands for Teacher support, E-learning, Adult literacy, Child development, Happy school). He started the Shelter Kit project that now is in the vanguard of disaster relief in India. His Saving Little Hearts project, which provides heart surgeries to thousands of children, along with the more than 15 eye hospitals he helped establish, which have served hundreds of thousands, speaks to the scope of his dreams.

Ravi Vadlamani

Rotary Club of Guntur, India
2001-02 governor of District 3150

He has an exceptional talent for building teams and driving them to achieve their goals. Shekhar’s programs and ideas may seem larger than life, but he always walks the extra mile to make Rotarians feel at home.

His power of dreaming big is backed up by planning, perseverance, and patience. He’s an excellent communicator who connects with his audience instantly and can motivate people to move mountains. He is also a family man, ably supported by his spouse, Rashi.

Shekhar’s X factor as a leader? Nobody is able to say no to him when he asks for something.
