Vice President's Message 08 November 2025

Welcome back President Kelly and Paul, it sounds like you both had a Great Trip.

On Monday 3 November, 10 Rotarians, 7 Partners, 1 Guest and Leo went to the Hugsiam Thai Restaurant for our Melbourne Cup Evening.
Those attending enjoyed a lovely Thai meal and some great special time chatting.
We had 2 tables set, for 10 people on each.
Having the tables close together made it difficult to move around and catch up with others, but some of us managed.
It was unexpected, but once we arrived we were told we had to be out by 730pm, as the table had another booking. This was the earliest finish to a Rotary Meeting in a long time!!

Thank you to our "Bookies", Trevor Pickles and Bruce Smith for coordinating and running the 2 sweeps - a $5 an a $2. I understand that Trevor was in training?, and kept under the experienced eyes of Bruce... From what I witnessed, Trevor picked up things very quickly!
We really appreciated your effort Gents running the club sweeps for the Melbourne Cup.

With a restaurant policy of no 'Splitting of bills" everything ordered from the 19 of us (food and drinks) was paid 'all together'.
Thank you Gerard for reimbursing this payment of the bill.
Thank you treasurer Gerard for your quick action in scanning the itemised account and emailing it out to everyone.
Hopefully with Gerard's quick action, we can all remember what we had, and make the payment to the club account Gerard sent out.
Thank you all for your responses and payments!

Leo is back with the Binyon's.
A huge thank you to the Fenwick's for hosting Leo while President Kelly and Paul enjoyed an amazing trip abroad.

Gerard Hogan is coordinating the Cadel Evans Bike Ride Marshalling. This event is scheduled for late January 2026.
Please contact Gerard to discuss your availability.
Gerard has the road plan, you can look at the intersections and roadside places requiring marshalling... and pop your name down.

From next week, President Kelly will once again take the reins and lead the club.
Thank you
See you next Monday!

Cheers
Michael

Christmas Donations

Christmas is just around the corner.

This is a friendly reminder that we are collecting food items for Torquay Food Aid. Thank you to those who have contributed to our donation. We still have lots of time to make this donation one that helps multiple families have an enjoyable Christmas.

Some suggestions for donations are: - Canned Soup, canned Spaghetti and baked beans, small cans of fruit, canned corn and tomatoes, tomato sauce, Long Life Fruit juices and milks, canned Christmas Hams, and Biscuits – both savoury and sweet

I will have boxes at our meetings this month to collect the items for Torquay Food Aid and hopefully we will be able to donate some amazing items

Thank you and kind regards, Linda Neale

Keep This Date Free - 25 November 2025 at 9am

On 25th November, Rotary Club of Torquay in conjunction with Surf Coast Council and The Torquay Community House, we will be walking from the Torquay Surf Life Saving Club to Zeally Bay Car Park.

This walk is to commence the United Nations International Campaign - The 16 Days of Activision against gender based violence from 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) until 10 December (International Human Rights Day)

We are organising for some speeches by key local personnel, to be held at the completion of the walk. We would love to
have as many males as possible, help us to raise awareness about this disastrous scourge that is part of our society.

Locally, it is kept, very much under wraps, but let us see if we can help these people seek help or at least know where they can receive help and assistance.

Food Safety Certificate

Food Safety Certificate

Could all those who help with the barbeques please complete the Food Safety Certificate?

https://dofoodsafely.health.vic.gov.au/index.php/en/component/topics/?view=topic&Itemid=199&id=5

Home - DoFoodSafely

When you complete this topic you will be able to:

dofoodsafely.health.vic.gov.au

This is to ensure that correct food handling occurs at our barbeques and you understand why it is done.

Thank you to those of you who have completed the Certificate, we will be keeping a register.

We need to follow Best Practice and so would like to have someone who has completed the Certificate on each shift of the BBQs.
