President's Report No 18
A very Good Evening to one and all,
I trust you all took advantage of the break last week and enjoyed a night off from Rotary. Unlike the Board, who spent 3 long hours debating and going over all things, important, for our club and members.
There are a few things that I, as your President, would like to point out to you all, and that is the total dedication of your Board of Directors. A lot of hard work, long hours, endless sub-committee Zoom meetings and of course the wellbeing of the club is always priority, and also voluntary, so it's especially nice to have you all come along on our meeting nights to show your appreciation to the Board. Amanda your Club Service Director has done a brilliant job so far, in keeping us entertained each week with some great Guest Speakers and we've had a couple of great fun nights, and more to come, one of course being tomorrow night where we will be entertained by none other than our very own Bookie, Neil Henderson. More on that later...
As you all know we will be having our AGM on Monday 23rd November and as you are all aware this is the most important meeting of the year and of course every member would be expected to attend to get the maximum input to the subjects that will be raised on the night.
There are a number of very important documents that will be sent out to you all by Secretary Maggie who has spent endless hours getting these together as well as Lesley who again has been a major asset to us with the time she has spent getting the Constitution and By-Laws up-to-date for the club too. I know it’s a lot of reading but it's for the sake of the club and its future.
Mal has put together a detailed version of the club's expenses etc and this too is important for you all to closely read and understand the layout of club funds and expenses and where our fees go to. In the past these AGM have been lacking in member attendance but with the way we have had to adapt to the new Rotary way of life, getting online to attend a meeting is nothing and I would like to think that all my members of the club will attend this very important meeting. We need the show of hands to keep this club running as well as it is. You have a couple of weeks still to consider what you want to do and be a part of.
Now for the lighter stuff... The club, as of today, has officially launched the new fundraiser, 'Pets on Parade' where all donations will go to the 'End Trachoma' fundraiser and again some great prizes (all donated) will be given to the winners. Go to the website and see for yourself or check out the link in this Bulletin and get the cameras 📷out and start entering in those beautiful shots 🖼 of the fur babies🐶🐈or maybe not so furry, my Daughter owned a snake 🐍called Khar..!! 😳 You have until 30th November to get your entries in so get snapping.
Well tomorrow night sounds like it will be a lot of fun. It's Cup Eve 🐴which has always been a night of good food🍗, plenty to drink🍷🥂and a lot of money💰spent. This year, of course will be slightly different as has been everything else but no less a fun filled night. It's also a good excuse to dust off the top hat, bow ties, fascinators or tiaras👸, whatever your fancy as I believe we'll be having a 'fashions on the field' section as well as a lot of betting, a ‘Phantom Call’ and a special guest speaker a 'colourful racing identity' no less..!! Neil, (Handbrake Hendo The Fun_raising Fanatic) has sent out an email to you all via Clubrunner to explain all the details on how to place a bet so have fun and enjoy the night. Just think of the prizes and money you could win...!!
Many members have already emailed back their requests for sweep tickets. If you aren't one of them then ensure you email me back before 11.00am tomorrow (Monday.)
There will be multiple $2 and $5 sweeps. I detailed the prizes in my previous email.
Just let me know how many entries you want in each value sweep. The draw will be completed before Monday evenings Cup Eve Meeting and will be emailed to all members prior to the big race.
The Phantom race call has been recorded. You can bet on the winner AT THE MEETING. Just be prepared so as you know your selection and how many $5 bets you want to place. This is a winner only competition. No prizes for placegetters.
As the call is now locked in and submitted to the Zoom coordinator, if you can't attend the meeting but want to place a bet on the result just email it to me in advance.
.....and of course remember to Frock-up, well at least from the waste up for tomorrows Zoom Meeting.
Our club will be honored to have Rotary International Director Virpi Honkala from the Rotary Club of Raahe, Finland join us during Rotary Foundation month to update us on The Rotary Foundation (TRF) during the current challenging times and into the future.

The Interplast Committee of Rotary District 9780 is fundraising for Interplast through an online raffle. Funds raised will go directly to Interplast Aust & NZ to support their efforts to develop plastic and reconstructive surgery services in SE Asia and the South Pacific.
1st prize $3500 travel voucher, 2nd prize $1500 travel voucher. Please note these prizes can be taken as cash. There are only 1500 tickets for sale, so your chances of winning are far better than with Tattslotto! And you get to feel good about it!
Changing Futures Through Medical Care And Training
In Australia and New Zealand, we often take it for granted that if we ever need medical care, we will be treated quickly and effectively by highly qualified doctors, nurses, surgeons and other specialists.
But right next door in the Asia Pacific region, a lack of resources combined with limited training means people with repairable conditions are often not treated fast enough or well enough – if they are treated at all.
The numbers are almost impossible to grasp.
An estimated 143 million people each year go without surgical attention they urgently need, according to the Lancet Commission on Global Surgery. More than 99 million of those cases are in Asia and Oceania, where Interplast works.
For many conditions, plastic and reconstructive surgery is the only path to a productive and comfortable life.
If a mum or dad is burned in an accident and not treated adequately, scarring can cause the affected limbs to seize up or fuse to other parts of the body. The right surgical procedure can mean the difference between returning to work, or no longer being able to provide for their family.
A child with a cleft lip or facial tumour may be teased so badly that attending school is impossible. Surgery can make the difference between missing out on an education or fulfilling their potential. For those with cleft palates, surgery can mean the difference between being able to eat properly or suffering from malnutrition, and between speaking with ease or living in silence.
When you donate to Interplast, you contribute directly to changing futures today. Your donation will give someone in need the chance to have life-changing surgery, and it will give someone the opportunity to learn new skills that will benefit their community for years to come.
Well the walking is over for another year so well done to everyone who sponsored Pete's Pals and did their share of walking

Here's a challenge for everyone...….in these "different" times in which we are living there are more and more Clubs now holding on-line meetings so now it's easier than it's ever been to do a make-up.
You can do them from the comfort of your own home and you don't even have to get dressed up.
Let's have a club challenge to see who can do a make up form the most interesting city. Be sure to grab a screen shot of your meeting and send to me for the bulletin.
What a great way to meet other Rotarians from around the world and to find out how they are living through the COVID-19 lockdowns.
To make it easy the Rotary Club of Mount Lawley in WA have begun compiling a list of Clubs who are now holding On-Line Meetings to view the list click the link below.
Whilst we all are dealing with the COVID 19 Virus and the restrictions this has placed on our Club Meetings and all of us personally, our meetings will be held on ZOOM for the time being.
All details for how to log into the Zoom Meetings can be found in the article elsewhere in the Bulletin, on the Club Website & Facebook pages. remember that Guests are also available.
Club Members and friends also come together over the airwaves to meet and chat socially at the Friday night Happy Hour so I hope you can join in & enjoy the connection
