It was very different this week – not having Rotary on Monday …..
I actually went to the Rotary Club of Geelong on Tuesday and joined them for their lunch meeting.
It was their official DG Visit – I was lucky to hear District Governor John’s presentation once again.
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit, and it did make me think about the ‘good old days’ when we used to do make ups – and visit other Rotary Clubs. If anyone has the opportunity to visit other Rotary Clubs, and join them in their meeting, I strongly recommend it.
So …… no Monday meeting …… But instead, a fun night at the Trots on Friday!
We had a great social night out, 3 tables of Rotarians, Partners and Friends.
After arriving at Berkley Park for the Trots by 6pm, moving to our tables – it was time for a couple of drinks, and catching up with others there.
It was wonderful to hear the chatting, laughter and watching everyone enjoying the company of others ….. something we have all missed.
Our Christmas dinner was served, and racing commenced. Trevor Pickles spent time ‘advising’ and ‘coaching’ Lea on the finer points of choosing horses and ‘betting’ …. This was very amusing and entertaining!
Once we had our dinner, we moved around the tables and socialised (a lot) more.
Although there were a few winnings collected – I’m not sure there was a fortune won to banked? …… but “what happens at the races – stays at the races”!!
There is no doubt everyone thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
I would like to thank Jan, who has spent a lot of time securing, liaising with the venue, and coordinating this evening for us.
A big thank you to Howard for arranging the Hybrid Camera for the club, and to Lesley for linking it to our club computer. We are now set up so anyone who is unable to join us in person, can log on, and join us from wherever they are, and be part of our face 2 face meetings.
Isn’t technology wonderful!
As everyone is now aware, we use Teams for our online meetings.
All of our meetings will now have a Teams Link – this includes all our face 2 face meetings.
So, if you are unable to attend a face 2 face meeting, you will be able to log on using the Teams link.
The meeting, business, reports, and speaker will be able to be viewed through your computer, as captured by our new Hybrid Camera, which will be linked to our club computer….. and transmitted to you!
On Monday we have Past District Governor Stephen Lamont talking to us about the 2023 International Convention, which will be in Melbourne. This will be a great opportunity for people to ask questions about this event, which is something we should be planning to attend!
OH, by the way ---- Please note Monday 20th December in your diaries, calendars, phones, computers, or wherever you keep you ‘special occasions’ and upcoming commitments …. As this folks, is our not to be missed Rotary Club of Torquay Christmas Function! – to be held at Kithbrooke Park.
Details of this event will be communicated to us all.
Believe it or not – the 20th of December marks 1 year to the day I had my ‘Big Shave’ – how time flies!
