Well, another week has gone by and we’re so lucky we live in Regional Victoria as Melbourne is not in a happy place at the moment. With the continuation of the Lockdown, I can understand why some would want to escape to come here and stay in their holiday homes, the businesses won’t complain that’s for sure. But of course, there are those who also escaped from here to go on their travels too, which I wish them an enjoyable time away and especially please keep safe. My only disappointment with all this is I don’t get to see my family and I miss the cackle of my Granddaughters, it’s just not the same over the phone or Facetime…!
I am one of those that lives on her own and believe me if I didn’t keep myself busy everyday one could really be in a bad place…! I, at least have my dear 19 year old cat Max to talk to, not that he listens unless I mention food, but at least there’s a presence of sorts, a one sided conversation except the occasional meow or purr when he feels like it… he gets me off my butt too with his indecisions on whether he actually wants to go outside or not or he’s just happy with me holding the door open and letting the cold air in whilst he makes his mind up. But there are those who have nothing and they’re the ones we should all think about. So, as I’ve said before, now’s the time to think of our friends and neighbours, are they alone, sick, unable to go out for any reason or just lonely and missing family or a loved one. Take the time to communicate with those less fortunate and might just get forgotten a little bit…!!
Last week was a very important meeting as you know, and I was very pleased to see so many of you turned up to take part in it. The whole meeting was run very professionally and fairly. I can’t thank Lesley enough, as I’m sure you will all join me in saying a huge THANK YOU to you Lesley for conducting the meeting for us. Your patience and calmness was a valuable asset to the club that night, as voting of club fees is without doubt a contentious subject but as it was all was calm on the western front…!! Of course, the evening wouldn’t have run to order or as smoothly if it weren’t for the professional agenda put together by Secretary Maggie… once again a huge THANK YOU to you too Maggie, I appreciate the number of hours and personal time it takes to put a meeting like that together so well done.
This Monday, as you’re well aware, will now be a ‘Zoom meeting’ and you would have received the link for it by now. We will have a special speaker who is going to tell us a few stories of her interesting life and adventures growing up and up until the present, that is of course Maggie, so make sure you have a glass of something at hand and sit back and enjoy a relaxing night with fellow Rotarians, partners, and friends if they wish to join us, and be very well entertained…!!
Of course, the following week is the Queen’s Birthday Bank holiday weekend, where again there will be no meeting. So, enjoy the break and we’ll, hopefully, be back together again face-to-face on the Monday 21st June where once again we will just have a leisurely dinner meeting and hopefully be finished by 7.30pm. This meeting will be followed straight after with a ‘Joint Board Meeting’... I will also have the pleasure of Inducting another new member into the fold and that will be Claire Slocombe whom most of you would have already met as she’s been attending a few of the meetings of late. If not, I know you will introduce yourselves and make her feel very welcome.
So, until Monday 21st take care and look after yourselves and those close to you and especially keep well, keep safe so we can all get back together again, in numbers…!
A couple of reminders: there will be no Bulletin next week due to the Bulletin Editor being on a well-deserved and very overdue break… and don’t forget to book and pay for a seat at our RC of Torquay Changeover Luncheon on Sunday 4th July at Kithbrooke Park.
CLICK HERE for a report of the RVFR muster to Wentworth/Broken Hill which was in May this year.
There were some 70 odd RVFR’s there from all over Victoria and SA. Priscilla’s performance at the Broken Hill Palace Hotel was at one end of the list of activities, and at the other end was a visit to Ron Goll station in Wentworth, where they produce 200 tonnes of almonds a year, and make significant use of solar power, with 600 solar panels on the roof of the huge machinery shed.
Obviously our Fine Dining Evening cannot go ahead thanks to COVID Lockdown, so once the future becomes clearer we will book another date with Graham and revisit who is available for an alternative date at that time. So watch this space please.
We are to be the guests of Graham Jefferies, Head Chef at SAMESYN, 3/24 Bell St, Torquay.
Graham owns 2 other restaurants, Tulip in Geelong and Wildflower in Melbourne. He has an impeccable record of providing an enjoyable and delicious dining experience.
"The restaurant speaks of the region, showcasing local suppliers with seasonal, everchanging dishes designed to share"
Graham will then speak, telling of his International Career in Fine Dining, the sourcing, supply and the business of food, and of course the creation of his restaurants, including his Torquay venture of Samesyn.
Unfortunately all 32 available seas are almost all filled so if if for any reason you are going to be unable to take your place please contact me ASAP rather than having any "NO SHOWS"
If for some reason this link does not work from this email , you can access the link from the Tuckers Funeral Service website and click on the link for John Lionel Crawford to watch the funeral.
Here's a challenge for everyone...….in these "different" times in which we are living there are more and more Clubs now holding on-line meetings so now it's easier than it's ever been to do a make-up.
You can do them from the comfort of your own home and you don't even have to get dressed up.
Let's have a club challenge to see who can do a make up form the most interesting city. Be sure to grab a screen shot of your meeting and send to me for the bulletin.
What a great way to meet other Rotarians from around the world and to find out how they are living through the COVID-19 lockdowns.
To make it easy the Rotary Club of Mount Lawley in WA have begun compiling a list of Clubs who are now holding On-Line Meetings to view the list click the link below.
