President's Report No 45
Salutations 👋 my fellow Rotarians and friends,
I do hope everyone has been enjoying the sunshine again for however long it lasts, but it’s good to feel the warmth on the body and makes you feel a bit more awake…!
It is with much sadness that I was informed during the week that John Crawford passed away following a recent illness. He was a proud member of RC Lara and District and was a former District Governor of District 9630 in Southern Queensland.
Both John and his wife, Diane, have provided exceptional leadership and support to Rotary in our District, both as members of RC Lara and District and as members of the District Leadership Team over many years.
A farewell service will take place at the One HopeBaptist Church, Barrabool Hills in Highton on Friday 28th May at 10.00am for those who would like to pay your respects. This will be followed by a wake at the Lara Soccer Club, Lara United FC – 10 Alkara Ave, Lara.
If you would like to join me and send your condolences to Diane and family, please see the address and details below:
Diane Crawford, 41, Country Garden Drive, Lara, VIC 3212 or email her ondicrawflara@gmail.com
See details also in this Bulletin….
Last week was, to say the least, busy and I do hope you all were able to feel that it was a fair and informative meeting. I would like to say a big thank you to Secretary Maggie and President Nominee Ben as Facilitators for the night’s discussion and to President Elect Mike, Lesley Shedden, and Treasurer Mal for their input giving short presentations.
This, as you know, will be followed with our ‘Special Meeting’ which will be held as a Zoom meeting on Monday 31st May at 6pm. Secretary Maggie during the week, sent out an email via Clubrunner, to all members with two attachments, one being a Proxy Form and the other the Agenda. If for any reason you didn’t receive this email, please contact Secretary Maggie or myself ASAP so you don’t miss out on your chance to vote. All Proxy forms have to be in at the latest by 5pm Monday 31st May.
Last week’s meeting was then followed by a Joint Board meeting where the current board met and welcomed the new incoming board members for President Elect Mike Reed’s Rotary year of 21/22. It is always good to see a couple of new faces around the table with new enthusiasm. I wish them well for the new year ahead.
Don’t forget to book yourselves in as well as family, friends, and guests for the Changeover Luncheon on Sunday 4th July 12pm for 12.30pm start. President Elect Mike and I will be hosting an afternoon of good food, good fellowship and good fun so please register ASAP and come and join me in welcoming PE Mike as your new President and his Board.
This coming Monday has ben changed slightly to a ‘social meeting’ due to the unfortunate cancellation of David Salamy and his TrioBikes, so this will be a good excuse to just sit and have a chat and maybe just take a breather…! Trevor Pickles is our Sergeant for the night, and we will be having a fines session and I should imagine a few laughs too so if you remember what cash is then bring it along. I have a feeling that the paper stuff shouldn’t be an issue whereas finding coins might be…!!! See you then.
I regret to advise you of the passing of Past District Governor John Crawford last week, following a recent illness.
John was a proud member of RC Lara & District and is a former District Governor of District 9630 in Southern Queensland.
John and Diane have both provided exceptional leadership and support to Rotary in our District, both as members of RC Lara and District and as members of the District Leadership Team over many years.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held for John, later this week.
The Service will be at One Hope Baptist Church, Barrabool Hills in Highton on Friday 28th of May at 10:00AM.
The after service wake will be held at the Lara Soccer Club, Lara United FC - 10 Alkara Ave, Lara.
Thankyou to all that have extended to me their memories of of their time spent with both John and Dianne.
If you would like to extend those thoughts directly to Di and Family here is their address:
On Tuesday 1st June, the first day of winter, we are offering Club members an opportunity to enjoy fine dining at A Not Too Expensive Price.
The cost is $40.00 per head for a choice of 2 main meals with delicious sides, and a selection of desserts.
We are to be the guests of Graham Jefferies, Head Chef at SAMESYN, 3/24 Bell St, Torquay.
Graham owns 2 other restaurants, Tulip in Geelong and Wildflower in Melbourne. He has an impeccable record of providing an enjoyable and delicious dining experience.
"The restaurant speaks of the region, showcasing local suppliers with seasonal, everchanging dishes designed to share"
Graham will then speak, telling of his International Career in Fine Dining, the sourcing, supply and the business of food, and of course the creation of his restaurants, including his Torquay venture of Samesyn.
Unfortunately all 32 available seas are almost all filled so if if for any reason you are going to be unable to take your place please contact me ASAP rather than having any "NO SHOWS"
We have raised over $100,000 (and counting!) towards the Rotary Club of Belmont's headspace Geelong Social Inclusion Project!
You only have until May 6 to join us, our Community Partners and our Platinum Sponsor - and all those who have donated so far - to raise vital funds to support our community’s young people.
We aim to raise funds which would enable the headspace Social Inclusion Project to be delivered for a further 12 months.
All funds raised will directly support the Social Inclusion Project, a program focusing on early intervention for complex, isolated and hard to engage young people. It is delivered via an outreach-based service, allowing young people to engage in a service where they feel comfortable and safe in discussing their mental health outside of a clinical environment.
Here's a challenge for everyone...….in these "different" times in which we are living there are more and more Clubs now holding on-line meetings so now it's easier than it's ever been to do a make-up.
You can do them from the comfort of your own home and you don't even have to get dressed up.
Let's have a club challenge to see who can do a make up form the most interesting city. Be sure to grab a screen shot of your meeting and send to me for the bulletin.
What a great way to meet other Rotarians from around the world and to find out how they are living through the COVID-19 lockdowns.
To make it easy the Rotary Club of Mount Lawley in WA have begun compiling a list of Clubs who are now holding On-Line Meetings to view the list click the link below.
