Presidents Report 16th December 2023

Hello Members and Friends,
Thank you to PP Michael Reed and PP Ben for stepping in as ‘mystery speaker’ and meeting for last week’s meeting at late notice.

Let’s Celebrate Christmas Together

Coming up this Monday night is our Christmas Celebrations at Torquay Angling Club at Fisherman’s Beach.
Thank you to PP Amanda has led the coordination and planning of this event which will see 46 members, partners and friends come together to celebrate.

Christmas Puddings and Cakes

Your orders have arrived and are being distributed to those who placed orders.
Margaret Mc Pherson has been in contact with Michael Buckley from Torquay Food Aid who is most grateful for the personal donations from our members as well as the Club contribution.
It will come as no surprise that the demand on the goods and services that Torquay Food Aid is astronomical and continues to grow. We will invite Michael to attend one of our meetings early in the year to learn more about the plight of our community members. Hopefully we can do more to assist.
Thankyou to PE Bruce Turner for organising the orders and Margaret for arranging distribution.

RCOT Business Awards

It was pleasing to read the recent article in the Surf Coast Times citing the recognition of Surf Coast Wildlife Resue Service in our Business Awards earlier this year.
Thanks again to our Vocational Team Trevor Hall and Greg Birchall for organising this year’s awards.

At this time of year let’s double our efforts for the remainder of this Rotary Year and Join with Others to:

Create Hope in the World

Roll Up Roll Up Roll Up for the Book Fair
As Franco Cozzo used to say "Roll Up, Roll Up, Roll Up!"
The Book Fair is less than a month away, the work roster has been sent out, so don't forget to Roll Up on your allocated shifts.
Do they need changing? Then email me immediately so as I can vary the Roster until we get a final version suited to all.
After the Motor Show, the Book Fair is our club's next highest earner. It only goes for a week. A bit intensive but its over quickly.
The Surf Coast Secondary College is a great venue and we will keep trying to raise the bar and offer a great range of books to the public.

Registering for District Conference 2024?

Next year's District Conference is in Mt Gambier on Mar 15th - 17th. Conference is a great avenue to learn about the latest in Rotary and enjoy Club Fellowship. Mt Gambier is a top location for that long weekend away - plenty of places to see and things to do.

Torquay will be running District Conference in 2025 during Lesley Shedden's year as DG. It is very important that we have a strong contingent at Mt Gambier to both support Lesley and promote our upcoming Conference. Its also important for our members to reacquaint themselves with how Conference operates as most members will have tasks to do when it is our turn in 2025.

Safe Phones for DV - donate your old mobiles

Established in response to COVID-19 lockdowns, DV Safe Phone collects, repurposes and gifts mobile devices to victims of domestic violence (DV) in need.
This is done in partnership with registered charities, safe houses and law enforcement authorities serving this vulnerable community. A practical, community-driven initiative, DV Safe Phone has to date facilitated the delivery of over 5,000 safe phones to enable victims to access help when it is needed most.

The Rotary Club of Grovedale Waurn Ponds has decided to partner with this cause and garner support from our local service clubs and businesses and has provided the following information:
