President’s Report 11 May 2024
Dear Members and Friends,
Well, what a memorable evening we all had last Monday night with our special Guest Speakers in Stephanie Lake and her partner Robin Fox.
Stephanie is the daughter of Gerard and Brenda Hogan and is the resident choreographer for the Australian Ballet, and Robin writes contemporary music and large-scale laser light installations and performances.
They had both just completed their first work for the Australian Ballet called ‘Circle Electric’ which premiered in Sydney last week.
I think the best way I can summarise their talents and passions are with a couple of video clips.
Thankyou Gerard for organising our special “mystery” speakers ………...awesome!
Funds Disbursement
This coming Monday’s Board Meeting will decide on the best use of our hard-earned Fundraising activities throughout the year. I hope you feel that you have been involved in discussing and determining where the funds are spent, by involvement and discussion at your club committee level.
The Board will provide a full report to you in due course.
Say No To Family Violence Walk (and coffee)
Thank you to Gail Birchall for organising our first in a series of walks around Torquay during May, creating awareness in Family Violence. Please see more information regarding our next walk this coming Tuesday.
Tuesday 14 May 2024 10:00am at The Salty Dog Cafe, 47 The Esplanade, Torquay.
Join us in your purple - shirts, hats, flags - to continue to spread the message that Rotary says No to Family and Domestic violence. Dogs welcome.
Our first walk saw a small group gather at Ginger Monkey last Tuesday to raise this awareness. even in the short time we were at the cafe, a couple of conversations and positive comments about what we are doing were generated.

Following Amy Hunter’s inspiring presentation to the club in February, the volunteer group ‘Welcome to Barwon’ (W2B) has been flat out.
On 17 April, the group welcomed a young Syrian refugee family to permanently move to Australia, after being matched through the Community Refugee Sponsorship Australia Program (CRISP). Torquay Rotarian Gail Chrisfield was among those gathered at Melbourne International Airport that night, having joined W2B at the start of March.
In the weeks leading up to the family’s arrival, W2B’s nine members were kept busy. Preparations included securing temporary accommodation, sourcing household items, compiling the necessary paperwork for government and other agencies, and locating essential medical, educational and other services.
