Now that you’ve sat down to read the Bulletin did you remember that tomorrow, Monday 30th November (or today, depending when you read this) is the last day to get your Pet photos and donations in for the ‘Pets on Parade’ fundraiser…??????!
Well you have just a few hours left and let’s make that highly anticipated amount of $2,000 goal. This is, as your President, my major goal for my year and with your help we can do it. Everybody has been very generous so far. We have had some gorgeous photos posted of our Fur Babies etc, which you can see on our website and on nearly every conceivable public image site there is, and all have been well documented, which is good to see and as from Tuesday onwards we will start the judging process to determine who’s the winner in all the different categories.
The Judges are myself, Rotarian Trevor Brown and Kate Gittings, from Torquay & Surf Coast Veterinary Clinics. Winners will be announced, and prizes presented on Monday night 14th December where we will have our special guest speaker, Graeme Fischer from District 9780, Chair of End Trachoma. So, look forward to that one.
It’s been a really tough year with everyone being holed up in our homes, losing jobs in some cases and had our finances reduced considerably, so it’s a big ask sometimes to keep dipping into the pockets or purses but for every penny you donate for whatever reason or whatever fundraiser you’ve contributed too it is so very much appreciated, so a huge THANK YOU to those who have done just that..
We have just a couple of weeks left of this half of the Rotary year before we break for Christmas, and I don’t know about you but I’m looking forward to catching up with the family for some long overdue fun and freedom. But of course we still have to behave ourselves and also think of those who still can’t see their loved ones for some reason or other, so maybe keep an eye and ear out for someone who could do with some company over the Christmas period, don’t forget your mates on the Support Telephone tree…!!
Last week we had our AGM and although not everybody turned up we are grateful to those that did as we had some very important decisions to vote on and your impact is very important as to how the club moves ahead. So, thank you to everyone who participated. This week there will no meeting as we have a Board Meeting with a few things in the pipeline to discuss, and for the first time, we’re getting together face to face... Yay….! 😊
You would be aware that Alan Anderson has organised a ‘Torquay Rotary Can Drive’ and with the involvement of a small committee consisting of myself, Mike Reed, Maggie Isom, Alan of course and ‘The Legend’ John Mac, we were given a donation from IGA of ‘recyclable’ plastic bags for collection (thanks John for organising that) of cans of food (no perishables) which Maggie has made up flyers to accompany these bags and were handed out to club members to pass on to friends, family and neighbours in the hope that they will donate cans. These cans will go to making up hampers for those less fortunate here on the Surf Coast by Louis Gill and her team at Food Aid Torquay, and hopefully add some Christmas cheer. Anyone who wants to contribute please contact any of the above and we can make arrangements for pick up or you can drop off to either my address or at John’s… Wednesday is the cut off point at this stage. I’m glad to say we had a very successful day on Saturday with our very 1st BBQ at Bunnings since the world shut down and although it was run under the watchful eye of a Bunnings staff member, we managed to behave ourselves, social distancing and keeping up with the hourly sanitising ‘everything’, it ran in a very orderly manner and we streamlined it from start to finish. It was good to hear the customers say “welcome back Rotary” or “we’ve missed you guys” … the smell gets ‘em every time...!!
