Expressions of Interest to Host Rotarians from USA.

In the November issue of District Governor Rosanne’s Monthly News there was a call for expressions of interest to host Rotarians from USA as part of the Rotary Friendship Exchange program.
Rotary Friendship Exchanges are a great way to meet new people in new countries. Out bound and In Bound Friendship Exchanges are normally for 2 weeks with a team of 10 – 12 people – usually Rotarians, who travel to another country and stay with Rotarians and visit their District and their Rotary Clubs. Generally teams stay 3 to 4 days in each place and the host Rotary Club members organise for the team to visit places of interest and attend Rotary meetings or attend Rotary functions.
At the moment two Rotary Districts have expressed an interest in a Friendship Exchange with D 9780:
  • D 5060 North Central Washington, USA and British Columbia Canada in Okanagan Valley.
  • D 5970 Iowa USA
At our Board meeting on18 November Board members supported the notion of being a host club.  Planning is in the early stages but the Chair of D9780 Rotary Friendship Exchange, Gail Barrett, needs at least 4 host clubs for each incoming team – 8 host clubs all up. Timing is yet to be determined and potential host clubs are asked to nominate when would be the most suitable time for the team to visit their area.
If anyone is interested to host 2-4 visitors for 3-4 days please contact Robyn O’Loughlin or Lesley Shedden and we will see if we have sufficient capacity to offer Torquay as a host club. If you would also note what month in 2020 you would be able to host that would be helpful.
