Rotary Supports Mental Health

The Rotary Club of Geelong West is putting together an information evening that we are asking all Rotarians and families to support. At the 2024 Rotary Conference the message from Rotary in the District was that we would try to support mental health advancement and research and the link mental health has to Domestic Violence.
We are delighted to have support for this from Professor Michael Berk. He is currently a NHMRC L3 research Fellow and is Alfred Deakin Chair of psychiatry at Deakin University and Barwon Health, where he heads the Institute for Innovation in Mental and Physical Health and Clinical Translation (IMPACT). He also is an Honorary Professorial Research fellow in the Department of Psychiatry, the Florey Institute for Neuroscience and Mental Health and Orygen Youth Health at Melbourne University, as well as in the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Monash University. He has published over 1600 papers in the area of mental health. His major interests are in the discovery and implementation of new therapies in the treatment of depression, anxiety and PTSD.
He will be supported at this event by information from The Geelong Community Foundation based on their Vital Signs report which has links to where, as clubs, our support could be best targeted and Dr. James McClure who works with Professor Berk.
We are hoping to donate the proceeds from the event to Read the Play which is a local organisation working with young people through sports clubs aiming to build resilience in young people. There will be a representative of the organisation with us on the night.
Please join us for an informative evening.
