Presidents Report

This week we had President Elect Amanda and some of her intrepid band give us a report on proceedings at District Assembly which was held at Stawell on Sunday 3rd May.  Chris Sims, Mal Slater, Kathryn and I attended various sessions.  Information gained at the event will assist the new Club administration in their work in the coming Rotary year.

Sponsoring of new Probus Clubs is part of the community service responsibility of all Rotary Clubs.  As many of you are aware I have been working on the formation of a 6th Probus Club in Torquay.  It will be called the Torquay Zeally Bay Probus Club.  From eighteen interested attendees at the first meeting on 28th April to fifty three expressing interest a week ago we now have nearly eighty potential Probians, so it would appear that we are fulfilling a growing need in our community. As we live in a sea-change area my guess is that formation of a seventh Probus Club is not too far away.

Our sergeant-at-arms did a great job in fleecing many us with a robust fines session.  Remember when you donate to the fines box your money will go towards the provision of Aquaboxes at the end of June.

Well that's all from me this time and I hope to see all of you at the meeting next week

Yours in Rotary Service,

Gerard McNamara
President
Rotary Club of Torquay

The Highton Rotary Star Search is on again this year and we would like to invite you to attend the Finals performance to be held at Sacred Hear College's McAuley Hall on Friday May 29th. Attached is a flyer with information about ticket sales. If you can not access the Internet or would like to arrange for a cash payment for tickets please contact Stephen Bath on 0407 335 198. We have a very talented line up of 14 vocal and instrumental performers that I'm sure you will enjoy. This night will be in place of the normal Thursday night dinner meeting so we hope members, partners and friends of the Rotary Club of Highton will be able to attend.

Is Paper Dead?

It has been said that, in this computer age, paper is dead.

It's only 39 seconds, so please watch it all...the irony won't be lost .

MEETING APOLOGIES - What do I do?

Notifying someone about changes to your meeting attendance is your responsibility!

Our meetings have catered dinners, so if you are unable to attend a meeting, or if your partner is unable to attend a designated Partner's Night, YOU MUST ADVISE us of your or your partner’s absence.  This also applies if you are attending the meeting but not dining.

There are two ways to do this, either record the information in advance in the "Apology Book" that is available at each meeting or telephone 03-5222-2022.  An answering service operates out of hours.
  • All apologies must be made no later than 9.00AM on the Monday of the meeting (unless other arrangements were addressed in the Bulletin).
  • If no apology is recorded by that time, the absentee member will be issued with an invoice to pay the Club the dinner fee of $25 for your non-attendance, and/or that of your partner if it is an official Partner's Night.
  • REMEMBER on "Partners Nights" it is assumed that you partner IS attending unless you apologise for them!
Remember if you are bringing guests or your partner (to a non-partner night) you need to notify us of the extra number of persons who will be attending.

Absence on travel is not an excuse.  It must be recorded beforehand in the “Apology Book”.
