Hello
Firstly, I’d like to say a huge thank you to Greg Birchall and Trevor Hall for all their efforts working with Commerce Torquay to produce the Torquay Business Awards. This wonderful event was held on 5th September and attended by myself, PDG Lesley Shedden, Mike Reed, Bruce Turner, Trevor Hall, Ben Featherston and Gerard Hogan. Our Club sponsored the Not For Profit category which had three finalists – Ocean Mind, Samesyn 2.0 and Surf Coast Environment Group. The winner was Ocean Mind.
Shout out to one of our newest members, JJ Walia, and the team at Priceline Torquay, who took out the Retail Award
It was a fabulous night and well received by the business community and looks to only become bigger and better.
Well done to Linda and the BBQ warriors who worked the Bunnings Fathers Day BBQ on Friday. Not huge takings but good to be seen in the community!
Last Monday’s meeting was a vocational visit to the Torquay Community House where Coordinator Prue Challis gave us an overview and update of what has been happening at TCH, the challenges they and the community deal with, and what they would like to accomplish in the future.
I was also able to introduce our exchange student, Leonardo Spinoni who arrived from Milan, Italy last Friday night to members and guests. He spent his first week with us and has now transitioned across to Fenwick family for the next couple of months. We finished off our visit with delicious pizza and great conversations – with Tom Frat engaging with Leo in the mother tongue!
This Monday we are back at Kithbrooke Park and have guest presenters Nick Vivian and Ryan Reed to take us through their adventures participating in the Sh*tbox Rally.
On a personal note I am taking a leave of absence to travel overseas and will temporarily hand over the reins to Vice President Mike Reed and Immediate Past President Bruce Turner. Anything to do with youth exchange should go via Youth Service Director, Amanda Hough. I’ll see you all on Cup Eve!
Warm regards,
Kelly
