President's Report No 36

Greetings to you all,

As you are well aware, we’ve been busy getting all the final details together for today’s R100 Baton relay. But by the time you read this it would all be over after months of planning.
As you know it’s been a long time coming and I hope we make an impact on the local community on just what we do to get the message out there.
Rotary’s 100th Birthday is really something to celebrate, and for all of us to be a part of that celebration, is not only a once in a lifetime event but an honour too.
My role as President in all this is not only the pleasure of having fellow Rotarians join me in this celebration, but family and friends alike, the community support and special guests such as the Mayor Libby Stapleton and Deputy Mayor Liz Patterson, Cr Rose Hodge and of course DG Phil Beasley and Judy, who all contributed to keeping our RC of Torquay on the map celebrating this 100th year event.

See elswhere in the Bulletin for further details (with plenty of photos) as to how the day panned out for those who couldn’t make it.  Otherwise, I hope for those who did, you all enjoyed yourselves.
I for one won’t ever forget being able to tick off a Harley ride on my bucket list, finally getting my 70th Birthday wish and most importantly having the honour of representing our great Club and kicking off the 1st leg of the Baton Relay.  As the saying goes:

“We have Fun being Serious” Or should that be: “We Seriously have Fun”

There is No Meeting for Members tomorrow Night as the Board will be holding a meeting. The following week is the Book Fair wrap up and Thank You function for Sponsors and Volunteers.

The final arrangements for this will be confirmed mid week and you will then receive an Event Invitation which will confirm all details. Please read it carefully when you receive it as there may be some differences to a normal Dinner Meeting.

President Jan 😊

Chairmans Report - Michelle van Liessum

Michele Van Liessum , who was our Guest Speaker on Monday night is District 9780 Fund raising Chair on the District Donations Committee of the Rotary Foundation. Michele lives in Torquay, and is a member of the Geelong Rotary Club . Michele explained about the different areas of the Rotary Foundation

Personal Giving to The Rotary Foundation
Contributing to TRF is voluntary, but a certain expectation is accepted by Rotarians that they support TRF to the best of their abilities.  It might well be suggested that philanthropic activities of members might be thought of as a personal goal, in making TRF your charity of choice- it’s a tax free donation.

 Centurion Program:
This program is used in this District as a method of supporting the Annual Program Fund, and has been well canvassed within  District 9780.
Through the principle of Every Rotarian Every Year, its operation involves $100.00 per head per annum.  It also supports the Sustaining Member Program that is achieved by a contribution of US $100.00 per head per annum. Centurion contributions can be directed to Polio Plus, with all avenues accruing credits for PHF recognition.

 Paul Harris Fellow [Recognition]:
This particular contribution is US $1,000.00 and is possibly better known than most.  This recognition can be built on with additional contributions of US $1,000.00, over any period of time, to add five Sapphires and then three rubies to the badge.

Benefactor and Bequest Society:
This form or level of contribution comes from a different direction;   this level is available to any member that makes provision in their Will or Estate Plan, naming Rotary as a beneficiary.   This outright contribution becomes part of the Permanent Fund
The Rotary Foundation then  transforms those  gifts into service projects that change lives both close to home and around the world.
Since it was founded more than 100 years ago, the Foundation has spent more than $4 billion on life-changing, sustainable projects.
How does the Foundation use your donation
1] Annual Programs Fund: This fund is the Primary source of funding, for TRF and its programs.
2] Permanent Fund: This is an endowment fund, from which, any earnings from the capitol contribution, are spent on the Foundations programs.
3] Polio Plus Fund: This fund is responsible for paying all grants made in support of the polio plus program, and it's goal of the eradication of polio worldwide.
The forms are attached  to this report
With your help, we can make lives better in your community and around the world.

We used this evening to recognise the dedicated work of our member & Past District Governor Chris Sims who was Chair of Rotary Foundation giving Program for many years. A power point presentation and a  certificate of appreciation was presented to Christine Sims  from the Club.

Make-Ups......it's Never Been Easier

Here's a challenge for everyone...….in these "different" times in which we are living there are more and more Clubs now holding on-line meetings so now it's easier than it's ever been to do a make-up.smiley

You can do them from the comfort of your own home and you don't even have to get dressed up.laugh

Let's have a club challenge to see who can do a make up form the most interesting city. Be sure to grab a screen shot of your meeting and send to me for the bulletin.

What a great way to meet other Rotarians from around the world and to find out how they are living through the COVID-19 lockdowns.

To make it easy the Rotary Club of Mount Lawley in WA have begun compiling a list of Clubs who are now holding On-Line Meetings to view the list click the link below.

Good Luck with the Challenge and I

So depending on the restrictions and as we agreed at the AGM last year we hope to have face to meetings  as well as  a few social meetings - to ensure we continue with our important Rotary social connections.
