President's Report No 44

Although there was no meeting this week following our 30th Anniversary celebration on Saturday 5th May the Club was still busy

many thanks to Michael, Rhonda and the team of volunteers who relocated all the remaining books from Storage King to the container at Rhonda's and managed to pack them all in safe and sound.....there's even a little space remaining for more books before January! This will save the Club from paying the monthly storage bill........Great effort!

Vale Mary Elliott
Our hearts have been very sad all week thinking about our wonderful friend and honorary member, Mary Elliott, who passed away on Sunday 6th May 2018.
A celebration of Mary’s life was held on Friday 11th May at Lyndon Grove Receptions, with Maggie Isom as celebrant. Mary’s family, Maggie and Chris Sims paid great tributes to Mary and our Rotarians formed a guard of honour for her final journey. May she rest in peace.

Group Presidents’ Meeting
On 10th May I attended my last group Presidents’ Meeting in Geelong. A few points to be noted:
  • Reminder of District Changeover on 27th May.
  • Reminder to make sure all Rotarians have working with children Cards and have full knowledge of Child Safe Laws.
  • Reminder that May is Bowelscan month and kits can also be purchased online this year.
  • Groups 9 & 10 are seeking ideas for a new joint event to replace “Ride the Bellarine” – Please give any ideas to PE Trevor Pickles who will be our representative at the next Presidents’ meeting on 30th July.
  • It was proposed to repeat the Rotary Expo from time to time but move around to different venues.
  • RC Highton have 1500 trees to plant in Waurn Ponds if anyone would like to help them.
  • Group International Directors meeting will continue next year – Darrel Brewin will take over from Lesley Shedden as our International representative.
  • RC Drysdale has started the IGNITE project again and is looking for clubs to knit beanies as well as sell them. Debbie Slater’s have been the most popular.
  • Barwon Rotaract will hold an International Cooking evening on 26th May at East Geelong Uniting Church. Their changeover is on evening of 26th May. All clubs are asked to support and grow Rotaract as a key goal next year.
  • 4 new Rotaract clubs are being formed in our District – Horsham, Mt Gambier, Portland and Ballarat
  • Queenscliffe Bricks (Lego) is on 9/10 June 2018
  • Headspace Charity lunch is on 18th May at the GMHBA Stadium. Tickets still available at $140 per head. Last year RC Belmont raised $64,000 from this event, see Michael Reed if you are interested in joining going.
  • RC East Geelong planning a shower bus for homeless people – looking for other clubs to participate as estimated cost will be $120,000 plus $20,000 per year to maintain.

    Monday 14th May
We look forward to hearing from Gerard McNamara about his trip to the Antarctic.
We will have two guests to thank for contributing to our book fair - Desley McKnight from the Scouts and Rosemary Featherstone from the book shop.

Rotary Global Rewards Program

Rotary Global Rewards, our member benefits program, offers discounts on products and services from local and global
merchants, along with opportunities to give back to Rotary.

Over 33,000 members have signed in to use Rotary Global Rewards. To raise awareness of this program, you can:
  1. Recommend Rotary Global Rewards to all club members. They can visit www.rotary.org/globalrewards from a computer or download the Rotary Club Locator App to use the program on mobile devices.
  2. Post a "Rewards" link to www.rotary.org/globalrewards on your club and district websites. This gives members easier access to Rotary Global Rewards.
  3. Encourage club members to post offers on Rotary Global Rewards.
  4. Suggest that club members help the program grow in their communities by asking local merchants to post offers.
You can find instructional videos, how-to-guides, and promotional materials on the Rotary Global Rewards page of My Rotary.  If you have any questions about the program, write to rotaryglobalrewards@rotary.org.

VERY IMPORTANT - Whoozin The New Weekly Meeting Book-in System

We are now fully operational with our new system for registering for our weekly dinner meetings. Called Whoozin, this program is used by other local Rotary Clubs with great success.
To make it easy for everyone I have prepared a Whoozin User Manual which is stored on Clubrunner under "Club Documents" that you will be able to print off if you wish.

In Summary the way it will work is:-
  • You will receive an initial email invitation each Monday for the following week's meeting.
  • You can immediately accept or decline, leave until later.
  • You will receive a reminder email on the Friday Prior
  • You will have until Midnight Sunday to register your RSVP and can change your decision right up until the closing time.
  • You can register up to 5 guests
  • You can specify any Special Dietary requirements
  • Please Note that if you do not register your intentions you will be charged for the dinner fee.
If you have any problems please free to contact myself Greg Plumridge 0418521321 or Michael Reed 0418524315 for details on how to work the program.
