President's Report No 8
Hello All,
First and foremost a reminder that we have Fireside Chats this week and a big thank you to our Hosts. Don’t forget to take your $25pp & a little something for the table (wine or chocolate should do just fine!). Enjoy a wonderful night of conversation, good food & great company!
Last week saw us back at the Lions Village for our meeting. It was good to catch up with everyone.
We welcomed Ting to her first regular Club meeting some of which game her an opportunity to get to know some of you a little better. I also presented her with her Club Badge and banner. Please be mindful of inviting Ting to accompany you and you family if you are going somewhere interesting.
We had reports from our major fundraising chairs for the Motor Show, Book Fair and Bunnings/Cowrie Market BBQ’s and it’s great to know that these events are well and truly in the planning stage. It’s very important that we’ll respond with our availability to help finalise the Event Roster.
I spoke to members about the feedback from our first Club Assembly facilitated by Howard Randall, reflecting on what we do well and areas that we can all improve on. Not to sound like a broken record but we need to keep Rotary in our daily conversations and never assume that people aren’t interested in what we do.
So again I challenge you to invite friends, colleagues, neighbours or anyone in your network along to events such as:
• Davidson Restaurant Vocational Visit (2 Sep) Remember RSVP's close for this event this Tuesday the 27th
• ‘Ride Like A Girl’ Movie Night (20 Sep) Remember that you need to book your own tickets using the link elsewhere in the bulletin & bookings close for this event on Fri 13th Sept
• Regular Meetings
It is through establishing and building relationships that we find new members.
With winter nearly over I hope we get a little more sunshine this week - take care and see you soon.
Monday 2nd September our meeting will be a Vocational visit to The Gordons hospitality training Restaurant
Set in The Gordon's first building, the historic 1887 lecture hall, the Davidson Restaurant provides an opportunity to experience classic cuisine at a reasonable price. Meals are prepared by our apprentice chefs and served by hospitality students in silver service training.
Mark Gingell will be our Host for the evening, he has been manager of the Davidson Restaurant, the training restaurant of the Gordon Culinary School since 2000. He was had a lifelong career in hospitality, commencing in 1977 when he and a business partner took over the management of Finnegan’s Place Restaurant in Ocean Grove. Since then he earned a the respect of many in the hospitality industry having owned or operated a number of award winning restaurants and hotels such as, The Source Restaurant, The Bush Inn hotel, The Three Crowns in the Melbourne suburb of West Melbourne before taking on a management role at the Ozone Hotel in Queenscliff the following its refurbishment.
It was during this time that Mark was approached to join the Hospitality and Cookery School at the Gordon, initially as a teacher of hospitality and eventually as manager of the Davidson Restaurant.
Please invite Partners, Friends, Family and prospective new members as this will be a very enjoyable evening of fine food, wine and great company.
