President's Report No 3
Well another week has just flown by and here we are again about to start a new one.!
I do hope you have all been well and staying at home, keeping out of the cold and away from everyone if possible. I know it is awfully hard to keep your distance from the ones you love but let’s hope for those who do have to ‘distance’ themselves that it won’t be for too much longer.
Last Monday saw us conducting our very first Club Planning Meeting, which went very well, and I can honestly say the Board have not been idle. There is always something to think about and as they say life still goes on. Your Board are always doing something in the background, so it is good to keep you, the club members informed as to what our intentions are, hence the Planning Meeting.
Rhonda has especially asked if we could keep and eye out for any coats, preferably for school aged children, who are in desperate need, which is a terrific idea, I for one have asked my Daughters to look in their children’s wardrobes for anything that can be used. It does not hurt to ask.
We had a couple of especially important guests join us last week, one who, we hope, could become a member, his name is Allen Hillgrove, so put your hand up and say Hi if he joins us this week. The other was President Graham Doodson from the Rotary Club of Torquay, UK, who I think might become a regular in weeks to come.
Well that’s it, short ‘n’ sweet.
Please be sure to join us on Zoom tomorrow night for our guest speaker will be Kevin Larkin who will be speaking to us on behalf of the Peace of Mind Foundation which supports people with brain cancer and which, as you may recall, we have supported with BBQs in the past.
I will see you at 7pm following our Board Meeting which starts at 6pm – 7pm. please do not log on too much before 7pm as we’ll be just tying things up.
Due to COVID, Dr John and I have been unable to get around to the Clubs to promote Interplast and the fabulous raffle for 2 Travel Vouchers, anywhere in the world, but probably in Victoria if you want to use them in this Pandemic year!! Think of Daylesford Accommodation & Spa, The snow, High Country or Yarra Valley Wineries and stay, Luxurious Retreats, Melbourne CBD, even simulate flying a jet, or balloon ride if you’re game.
....or you are not confident enough to book a holiday the Prize may be redeemed for Cash.
I am hoping that those of you who missed out on sharing Changeover in one of the Hosts houses will purchase some tickets which are selling for $10 each.
Please give me a call and I will get the tickets to you.
With thanks and gratitude not only from myself and John, but also from the children and families for whom Interplast makes such an amazing difference.
During this time of no hands on Rotary activities Clubs are being forced to be innovative when it comes to fundraising. The Rotary Club of Drysdale has created one such program utilising Catherine Eagleson's Clue Detective Puzzles as a basis for this.
Our Club is discussing the extent to which we support this program however in the meantime you may be interested in getting involved individually, right now.
Torquay Rotary are now meeting online every Monday (excluding public holidays) at 7:00pm. All Members are invited to participate and we have resumed a program including Guest speakers and some fun activities.
Visitors and Guests are very welcome. If you would like to join us please
Here's a challenge for everyone...….in these "different" times in which we are living there are more and more Clubs now holding on-line meetings so now it's easier than it's ever been to do a make-up.
You can do them from the comfort of your own home and you don't even have to get dressed up.
Let's have a club challenge to see who can do a make up form the most interesting city. Be sure to grab a screen shot of your meeting and send to me for the bulletin.
What a great way to meet other Rotarians from around the world and to find out how they are living through the COVID-19 lockdowns.
To make it easy the Rotary Club of Mount Lawley in WA have begun compiling a list of Clubs who are now holding On-Line Meetings to view the list click the link below.
Whilst we all are dealing with the COVID 19 Virus and the restrictions this has placed on our Club Meetings and all of us personally, future meetings will held through the ZOOM Platform.
All details for how to log into the Zoom Meetings can be found in the article elsewhere in the Bulletin, on the Club Website & Facebook pages. remember that Guests are also available.
Club Members and friends also come together over the airwaves to meet and chat socially at the Friday night Happy Hour so I hope you can join in & enjoy the connection
