President’s Report 16 May 2024
Hello Members and Friends,
While attendances were down to 7 attendees last Monday night, I understand the visit to Our Community followed by dinner at the Valley Inn, was an excellent evening. Thank you to Linda Neale for organising the evening supported by Gail Chrisfield.
Last weekend, PE Bruce, Michael Reed and I attended President Elect Training on Saturday and District Assembly. DGE Lesley was also there motivating and preparing Clubs from across the District for the year ahead.
There was much discussion about working collaboratively with other Clubs both locally with our Group and across the District to achieve larger projects and a greater impact.
In breaking news, RC Geelong and RC Corio Bay will merge and form a new single club commencing on July 1st. I congratulate both Clubs on reaching this decision which will maximise the efforts of their respective aging memberships. I am looking forward to the prospects a renewed focus will bring.
District Changeover
A call out to all members to register for the upcoming District Changeover on Sunday 23rd June, to witness and support our very own Lesley Shedden as she commences her year as District Governor.
This is a very special occasion not only for Lesley, but also for our Club as we become the ‘Home Of The District Governor’. Please see the registration details further on in this Bulletin.
Club Changeover
Our Club Changeover will be held on Monday July 8th at Kithbrooke Country Club. Please keep an eye out for registration details in future Bulletins.
This is the most important night on our calendar as we welcome PE Bruce to formally lead the club as President along with his new Board. There will also be some special recognition for some of our members and supporting friends.
Tuesday was a bit cold and a little damp when the six of us set off for our 10am walk up Gilbert Street and Bristol Road, then came down around past Woolworths and then down Gilbert to The Esplanade and back up to Mavis Mavis for a lovely hot coffee.
A huge thank you goes out to David from Geelong East Rotary Club, who joined us.
Next walk - there has been a change of plan. We will meet at the Torquay Hotel - there is plenty of car parking there and hopefully we will have coffee at Blackmans Brewery. The walk will encompass Bell Street and maybe some of The Espanade. Let's see if we could have a big roll up as this is our final May walk. Hopefully we will be very visible and get lots of questions from the community.
Thank you to those who have become involved in this worthwhile project. If we can help one victim, they seek help and are removed from that environment, then our walks will have been worth it.
Thank you to the recent BBQ crew of Sue Currie, Tom Fratantaro, Richard Hawker, Marg McPherson, Lynda Neale, Robyn O’Loughlin, John Oswald and Bruce Smith. Your time and effort last weekend at Bunnings resulted in $1109.40 being added to our fundraising total. Well done on another successful day.

I’ve contacted SAFVC and they are requesting further information to assist in setting the date for the Intro to FV training.
Please respond to these quick questions on behalf of club members you think might attend the training. If you could let me know by Friday 31.05?

To be held at Deakin University June 19 & 20, 2024. Daryl Lee is organising our involvement in this event, however please check with Richard Hawker if you need further information on this while Daryl is away. You will need to supply vehicle registration for parking purposes and I believe you require Working with Children check.
On Monday night 10 of us attended Our Village and were shown through the Warehouses and given a comprehensive account of the amazing work these wonderful volunteers do.
Jacqui - the Coordinator, explained about the name change and how they had a major donator who helped them go through the Rebranding. Our Village was the name of choice - after all it takes a Village to raise a child
We were shown the goods that have been donated and how they are cleaned, inspected and then finally after a tick of approval made ready for distribution.
