Hello Members and Friends,
Special thank you to Sue Currie for her Member Behind The Badge talk at last week’s meeting.
For those who missed the opportunity to hear from Sue, she spoke of her early life growing up in a family with a love of the outdoors and involvement in the Scouting movement which has continued through to her own family today.
We heard how this love of the outdoors and adventure took her overseas on a 3-month exchange as a teenager to the travelling throughout Europe solo as an 18 year old and on meeting Heidi. Sue spoke of her time at Mt. Buller Lodge in centre management, promotions and function / event management and a strong people centered passion.
Since moving to Torquay, Sue maintained her involvement in Scouts both as a Leader and as a parent, encouraging her three daughters on their respective journeys to becoming Venturers.
Thank you Sue for sharing some of you with us. It was GORGEOUS!

As I listened to Sue speak last week, I reflected on an interview which I listened to recently on radio about the Scouting movement’s alignment to the Global Peace Index and the world Sustainable Development Goals.
On further reflection, I think we in Rotary have far more in common with the Scouting movement than we realise. This says to me that there is an opportunity here, right in our own community, to support the development of our own youth and young adults through a closer relationship with Scouting on the Surf Coast.
Here are a couple of links you might like to explore to gain a wider understanding.
And here is another link to an address by John Hewko, RI CEO and General Secretary at last year’s Rotary Convention in Melbourne.
