President’s Message

Greetings and welcome.
Thank you for joining our online news and updates.

The launch/information evening for the 2025 Torquay Rotary Motor Show saw a great attendance from both members and guests who have previously helped out with this major event.
Thank you to Howard Randall and Trevor Hall for providing such a detailed and informative presentation. The focus of the evening was to present the exciting changes that the show will see for 2025. Most of these changes involve the administration of the show but will have a flow on effect to those helping on the day, with the end result being a very time efficient, smooth flowing and successful event. As mentioned on the night, many of the key aspects of the Motor Show are now locked in and we are moving towards the update of our social media pages and information. If you were unable to attend Monday night’s presentation and would like to be updated on the developments, please chat with one of the Motor Show Committee members.

Behind the scenes of the Motor Show  - Notably, I think it is the most "paperwork" we have done in preparation for our show which is heading down the "tech path".  Photo contributed by Amanda Hough.

Geelong 2024 Volunteer of the Year Awards

I had the privilege of attending the Geelong 2024 Volunteer of the Year Awards on Wednesday evening and would like to extend my congratulations to the Rotary Club of Kardinia and Volunteering Geelong on a highly successful event. The Awards Ceremony, held at The City of Greater Geelong Civic Precinct – Wurriki Nyal, is a fantastic recognition of the many community volunteers and organisations that make such a valuable contribution to the broader Geelong Community. The evening recognised thirteen finalists, who were selected from quite a strong list of nominees, with the announcement of five award winners. Well done to all the members of the organising committee.

Updates for members:

  • Please support the “Rotary Walk With Us” team Lesley has launched and throw the club’s weight behind World Polio Day.
  • Ryans IGA Community Rewards Program: The Rotary Club of Torquay has been selected to participate in Ryan’s IGA Community Rewards program. Our group will appear at Torquay for September and October. If you think your next visit to the supermarket will result in a spend of over $20, it is worthwhile making that trip to IGA
  • A final callout to get your bookings in for the Rotary Club of Grovedale/Waurn Ponds “A Night of Hypnotic Fun” at East Geelong Golf Club - Saturday 5th October. Buy tickets at:  https://www.trybooking.com/CUECS $50 includes the show and supper. Drinks are available at bar prices. It would be great to see other Rotary Clubs or service clubs grab a table of 8. Ticket sales close 27/9/24. Click here for info on the show. If you are interested (or already booked) we should be able to arrange a table – let me (Bruce Turner) know and I will happily coordinate a group.
  • Save the date Friday 22nd November: Bayside Geelong RC Trivia Night, venue Christchurch Geelong Hall, tables of 6-8 people, BYO drinks and food. Cost and more information to follow.

Walk With Us to End Polio 2024

Polio is the world’s forgotten disease and something that should have been made history a long time ago. It is a crippling and potentially fatal infectious disease. There is no cure, but there are safe and effective vaccines. The strategy to eradicate polio is therefore based on preventing infection by immunizing every child until transmission stops and the world is polio-free.

This October we are asking you to Walk With Us for those who can’t. We are challenging you to walk, run or roll 10, 20 or 50km throughout the month and raise vital funds that will help eradicate and prepare us for a Polio free world.

Club Meeting Meal Payment

Important Notice from Your Board: Club Meeting Meal Payment

Please remember that dinner bookings and cancellations must be completed by midday of the Friday preceding our Monday meeting.
The caterer requires numbers on Friday afternoon, and alterations after this time create many issues for all concerned.
The Club is endeavouring to keep expenses for members to a minimum, and as such, dinner prices are set with minimal leeway.
Unfortunately, over the last couple of months, the club has absorbed some extra expenses due to cancellations, and we are not able to allow this to continue.
Whilst we understand that unexpected emergencies (ill health, etc.) can always occur, in which case we should be able to cancel your booking and not incur a charge.
Late cancellations will generally result in a charge to the club, you will be asked to pay for your booking in these cases.
