Presidents Report 18 November 2023

Hello Members and Friends,

A short report this week following last week’s AGM, club meeting and Board Meeting.
At the Board Meeting we worked through and discussed the annual Club Health Check to the District Governor. There are a couple areas for ongoing improvement, the first being to update our Working with Children and Child Safety records and secondly the Club Strategic Plan (3-5 Years ahead).  We will work on these in the new year.
This week’s guest is PDG Anthony Ohlsen, District 9780 Rotary Foundation Chair, who will update us on all aspects of the Foundations work. The following week, Monday 4th December, our guest will be PP Graeme Cox, District 9780 Youth Protection Officer.
Program Director Gail is keen to hear from you with ideas and venues for our Christmas celebrations on Monday 18th. More about that in the next week or 2.
Say No to Family and Domestic Violence
By the time you read this article, some of our members will have supported Zonta International’s walk and rally at Johnstone Park Geelong on Saturday 25th November. This event kicks off the “16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence”. Rotary Clubs in the Greater Geelong are actively supporting this and other events during this period.
A reminder about the upcoming Film Night featuring the film Shayda which is a 2023 Australian drama film written, directed, and co-produced by Noora Niasari. Inspired by Niasari's childhood experiences, the story follows an Iranian immigrant woman in Australia who is raising her young daughter as the two live in a women's shelter, while also attempting to divorce her abusive husband. Screening at the Pivitonian Cinema Thursday 30th of November 2023, 5.45pm - 9.00pm. Here is the link for tickets: https://www.barwonhealthfoundation.org.au/event/shayda--the-pivotonian

Bunnings Christmas Family Event

This community event is on Thursday December 7th at Bunnings Torquay.
We have been asked to run the BBQ for the evening again; they are obviously impressed with our BBQ skills. We will require 4 or 5 people to staff the BBQ between 5:30 and 8:00pm. If you are available to help us out that would be fantastic and you can let Richard Hawker know via his email rjhawker48@gmail.com or phone 0407 610 414.
We are not required to supply any of the “goods” for the evening, simply provide the volunteers and aprons!!

Christmas Pudding Fundraiser

Christmas is just around the corner and if you need a little help getting organised for the big event here is your opportunity. Refer to the flyer below for more information on available items. If you would like to jump on board please send your order to ikonbc.bt@gmail.com
Your purchase will be supporting The Rotary Foundation as well as supporting our donation of Christmas Puddings to Torquay Food Aid. I will give you payment details in my reply to your order.
