President's Report No 6
Good Evening Everyone,
I do hope this weeks’ Bulletin finds you all healthy and keeping out of the cold. Hopefully, you’re coping with having to wear a facemask wherever you go and found a way to stop the glasses from steaming up, my neighbour suggests stop breathing that fixes it… very funny...!
We had our very own Darrel Brewin ‘Rotarian behind the Badge’ giving us an interesting story of his life and showed us some great photos of his and Pamela’s’ trips away. I don’t know about you, but I think we should have more of what Darrel showed us last week from other members who had the great fortune to travel to some wonderful destinations and experienced, maybe a once in a life time opportunity to take in some interesting sights. Why not share those experiences, I actually like the idea of having a ‘show and tell’ or ‘my holiday snapshots’ night every so often to lighten the night for us all.!
Tomorrow night should be an interesting one as well as a bit of light-hearted fun. We will have the pleasure of Catherine Eagleson from the Rotary Club of Drysdale as our guest speaker for the night she will be explaining how to be a part of, and how it works, of ‘The Club Detective Puzzle Agency’ for clubs looking for new ways to fund raise while social distancing.
It’s been such a quiet week I don’t have much to bring to you I’m afraid, but just keep staying at home and staying safe.
Don’t forget the ‘Support Telephone Tree’ and give someone a call, you never know when a phone call might make all the difference to someone in Isolation..!
Take care
John & Val Oswald both joined the Shift Friday this week.

Due to COVID, Dr John and I have been unable to get around to the Clubs to promote Interplast and the fabulous raffle for 2 Travel Vouchers, anywhere in the world, but probably in Victoria if you want to use them in this Pandemic year!! Think of Daylesford Accommodation & Spa, The snow, High Country or Yarra Valley Wineries and stay, Luxurious Retreats, Melbourne CBD, even simulate flying a jet, or balloon ride if you’re game.
....or you are not confident enough to book a holiday the Prize may be redeemed for Cash.
I am hoping that those of you who missed out on sharing Changeover in one of the Hosts houses will purchase some tickets which are selling for $10 each.
Please give me a call and I will get the tickets to you.
With thanks and gratitude not only from myself and John, but also from the children and families for whom Interplast makes such an amazing difference.
The Clue Detective Puzzle Agency has teamed up with the Rotary Club of Drysdale to devise a fundraising idea for clubs looking for new ways to fund raise while social distancing.
The establishment of this project has been prompted by the effect of the Coronavirus pandemic making it difficult for Rotary clubs to raise funds for their service projects and Lift the Lid on Mental Illness.
During this time of restricted movement, people are looking for activities to keep them occupied whilst at home. Solving puzzles is a great way to connect with friends and family to enjoy an activity that is fun, engaging and beneficial to mental health.
As Rotarians, it is important to stay connected as much as possible, and perhaps work together on some projects.
Crossword puzzles take the place of BBQs!
This Clue Detective fundraiser works like the school chocolate drive. Rotarians sell puzzle subscriptions to their family and friends. It is a good choice as it can all be done online, via members' homes, perhaps setting up a Rotary Puzzle Club via Zoom. Puzzles can be solved on an iPad.
How it works
For every Clue Detective Individual Annual subscription sold by a Rotary club, Clue Detective donates $24 direct to the club, half ($12) for their own local and overseas projects (Foundation, disbursements to local charities, etc.) and half ($12) to Australian Rotary Health on that club's behalf for their annual Lift the Lid contributions. There is also a monthly option.
A fundraiser can be run in two ways. A concentrated effort for a specified time frame (e.g. during Mental Health Month), or on an ongoing basis (regular promotion at meetings and in club Bulletin) or a combination of both.
Each Rotary club involved receives a dedicated landing (web) and an online order form. All sales can be tracked back to your individual Rotary club.
At the moment there are 4 Clubs in Groups 9 and 10 who have signed up , however if all the Clubs signed we could raise a lot of funds
Torquay Rotary are now meeting online every Monday (excluding public holidays and the last Monday of every month when a Board Meeting will be held instead ) at 7:00pm. All Members are invited to participate and we have resumed a program including Guest speakers and some fun activities.
Visitors and Guests are very welcome. If you would like to join us please
Here's a challenge for everyone...….in these "different" times in which we are living there are more and more Clubs now holding on-line meetings so now it's easier than it's ever been to do a make-up.
You can do them from the comfort of your own home and you don't even have to get dressed up.
Let's have a club challenge to see who can do a make up form the most interesting city. Be sure to grab a screen shot of your meeting and send to me for the bulletin.
What a great way to meet other Rotarians from around the world and to find out how they are living through the COVID-19 lockdowns.
To make it easy the Rotary Club of Mount Lawley in WA have begun compiling a list of Clubs who are now holding On-Line Meetings to view the list click the link below.
Whilst we all are dealing with the COVID 19 Virus and the restrictions this has placed on our Club Meetings and all of us personally, our meetings will be held on ZOOM for the time being.
All details for how to log into the Zoom Meetings can be found in the article elsewhere in the Bulletin, on the Club Website & Facebook pages. remember that Guests are also available.
Club Members and friends also come together over the airwaves to meet and chat socially at the Friday night Happy Hour so I hope you can join in & enjoy the connection
