Thank you to Gearard Hogan for kicking off our Strategic Plan development last Monday night.
A couple of things came to mind for me after reflecting on both the presentation and the discussion on the night.
“Begin with the End in Mind” a Stephen Covey statement regarding highly effective individuals and organisations.
“Start with Why” a Simon Sinek approach to understand and articulate our purpose. We might know “What” we do, and a few might know “How” we do what we do, but very few of us reflect on “Why” we do what we do.
Rotary International’s 7 Areas of Focus (Our Causes) should be our guide to develop some simple “Why” Statements for work and support we provide to our communities both local and overseas.
For example, our provision of Mosquito nets to Gulf Province in PNG
Area of Focus: Fighting Disease e.g. Malaria
The “Why” Statement might look like this. To purchase and send long life mosquito nets, so that the spread of malaria can be prevented in Gulf Province PNG.
The next stage in the Stategic Plan Development will be done at our Club Committee level, where Gerard and Garth Symington will work with the Club Directors and Committee members.
Fundraising Disbursement 2023-24:
The Club Board has approved the process whereby Directors are to recommend to the Board at the May Board Meeting, what Community Need (local and international) we should support this year with our funds.
Submissions to include:
- Identified Community Need
- Rotary Area of Focus being met.
- How our financial support will meet this need.
- Level of Financial support recommended.
- To whom the funds are to be distributed
Anzac Day 2024
We are supporting both Torquay RSL and the broader community by cooking and serving sausages in bread to those attending the Gunfire Breakfast on ANZAC Day. Torquay Lions will be working alongside us in the cooking and serving.
I will be presenting a Wreath on behalf of our club.
