Wow! What a night! We were joined by Past District Governor Stephen Lamont and Past President Lea Clements, Lea being our regular guest from the Rotary Club of Rizal West.
Graeme McDonald gave us a very good invocation – as Graeme said, Ben Featherston set the bar very high two weeks ago – it is nice to have some varied invocations delivered from our members. Thank you, Graeme.
Our new Hybrid camera seemed to work well. We will now have this set up at each of our face-to-face meetings – so if you can’t join us, you will be able to log on through the Teams link.
Nomination documents for District Governor 2024 / 2025 have been sent out.
Lesley Shedden has expressed interest in nominating for this position.
I put the following to our club at Monday’s meeting –
“I am seeking support from you, the members, in proposing Past President Lesley Shedden to be nominated for this role…. District Governor 2024 / 2025.”
Lesley has always given ‘above and beyond’. Since joining our club, Lesley has been Club President, Club Secretary, and more recently District Secretary for the past two years, all while serving on our Club Board and being involved in most of our club activities.
I put the motion forward that – “We, the President and members of the Rotary Club of Torquay (Inc) support the nomination of Past President Lesley Shedden as District Governor for the 2024 / 2025 year.”
Greg Plumridge seconded my motion --- and all those present were in favour!

Monday was actually Lesley’s Birthday! It was also the last face 2 face meeting Lesley will have with us for a while, as Lesley and husband Rob are off to Queensland for a few months. Lesley will still be with us – joining our meetings via our new Hybrid camera! Safe Travels Lesley and Rob.
After all that excitement, we had the privilege of having one of my secondary school colleagues, and Past District Governor Stephen Lamont talk to us about the Rotary International Convention in 2023. This folks is an event not to be missed – more on Stephen’s address a little later in the bulletin.
We are now in our busy period for club activities and commitments.
For our programs, projects, community service activities, and our commitments, we need volunteers.
Our Club has always been held in ‘very high esteem’ and been very well respected in our community – but without volunteers, we are unable to do them.
When Mal sends out requests for volunteers – please consider the event, and give a hand if you can ….. even if it is only for a short time and not a whole shift.
Often, there is people who can only do a short time, which can be put into the roster.
Keep the used stamps and hearing aids coming – I will discuss with Graham Fischer next week about a delivery to him in Camperdown and drop these collected items to him. This is an ‘ongoing program’…… so please keep collecting! As mentioned, all funds raised from these goes to End Trachoma.
Darrel Brewin has been contacted by Bellbrae Primary School, offering used school furniture to Donations In Kind. Darrel has liaised with Ewan at D I K, who have been inundated with donations. Given this, Darrel will keep in contact with Ewan and work on a suitable date to do this. Once we have notification we will require some volunteers, and vehicles to pick up the tables, chairs, desks etc and take them to D I K in North Geelong. Utes and Trailers will be very handy!
Thursday afternoon, I represented our club at the Torquay Surf Lifesaving Club, at an afternoon tea with our Prime Minister, Scott Morrison. Our Prime Minister was accompanied by Senator The Hon. Sarah Henderson and Corangamite Liberal Candidate Stephanie Asher.
This was a good occasion, catching up with many other local community groups and representatives.
Home for a quick change, and off to set up for the book stall at the Bunnings Christmas Market.
Well ….. after setting up our ‘book stall’ we sold very few books. Bunnings did donate to the club a 3x3M Gazebo though! This has a value of $165. So, between the Gazebo and exposure in the community, it was worth going. Thank you to all who helped out Thursday.

As of now I have resigned my position (after fourteen years) as the Program Manager of the Rotary Bowelscan program.
At our recent AGM it was decided to break my position into four separate areas listed below.
Could you please announce at your clubs next meeting of the situation and ask if any member of your RC club would be interested in filling any of the positions.
The positions the Bowelscan Committee are looking for are;
1, Geelong coordinator (filled) who would set up the local RC’s delivery and collection of the kits and package the kits for them.
2, A District 9780 coordinator to get the RC’s information regarding the contact persons details and the number of kits they would require.
3, Distribution coordinator who would order the kits required through Clinical Genomics and send out extra kits to clubs that would contact you.
4, Promotional and advertising coordinator to send out all posters etc to all RC clubs involved in the program and place adverts on WIN TV and the local paper.
Am prepared to look after the internet sales.
