President's Report No 4
Hello
We had a great turn out with 4 guests at last week’s meeting to hear Nicky Angus from the Surf Coast Shire speak. More details to follow in the Chair’s report.
We Christmas in July this Monday at Kithbrooke Park which should be a fantastic night. Please come along in your best Festive or should that be Festy gear! Unfortunately I won’t be there as I will be attending the Group 9 & 10 Combined Presidents Meeting In Geelong.
This week I have been asked to speak at BNI Bellarine about Rotary as they are having a “Not for Profit” organisations day. I am also attending the Australian Rotary Health Indigenous Student catch up at the Koorie Education Centre at Deakin Uni with PDG Jane Cox on Wednesday night.
Thank you to those members that offered to assist with the Donate Life stall this Saturday outside Woolies North Torquay.
Finally some housekeeping matters -
1. would all members please have their fees for 2019/20 paid by no later than 31st July.
2. ALL members to respond using Whoozin for Combined Clubs Dinner Meeting with the new District Governor being held at the Geelong RSL in Belmont on Monday 5th August.
We had a very informative evening on Monday thanks to our Guest Speaker Nicky Angus from the Surf Coast Shire. She has been with the Shire for 22 years, so has certainly seen a lot of changes within our region and within the Council itself. She has predominantly worked within Council’s Recreation team – with responsibilities for Playgrounds, trails & park related planning and projects. Nicky transitioned into a new role of Community Project Development Officer in October 2017 and her aim in the role is to help the community to progress their planning ideas though to a project and grant ready stage, fully scoped and ‘shovel ready’ with a clear indication of budget required. Nicky started meeting with Mike Reed in April 2019 to talk about opportunities to collaborate about community project proposals and her presentation to us was on all that is the Shire’s Involvement with Shire…wide Community projects. There are varying levels of funding being sought from the community to achieve these Community initiated projects – trying to match projects with groups such as Torquay Rotary, who may be able to be a funding contributor for community projects of interest. Torquay Rotary initiates our own ideas but maybe the Community Project Development could help aid, scope and quantify any future plans we have in mind.
Mary Elliott made her mark on the community with her dedication & commitment to Rotary & all the community Projects, and
She was a passionate promotor of the Organ Donor Awareness program, Chair of the District Committee & very active in community campaigns & support to transplant recipients
Mary Elliott was a model of the Rotary motto of Service above Self.
Mary would want us to support
You can support Donate Life week in many ways

Well all good things come to an end and an unscheduled visit to Robe and the Umperston Sinkhole in Mt.Gambier provided the transition back to the cold for the Fab 4
We are now fully operational with our new system for registering for our weekly dinner meetings. Called Whoozin, this program is used by other local Rotary Clubs with great success.
