Hello Members and Friends
Last Wednesday night, the Rotary Club of Grovedale-Waurn Ponds warmly invited 14 of our members and partners to join them at Mercy Place Rice Village in Marshall to hear Zach Watts speak about his recent experiences at the 2024 National Youth Science Forum.
Zach is College Captain at St John’s Lutheran College in Armstrong Creek and is a truly inspiring young man, who presented his reflections confidently, humorously and in a totally engaging manner. Zach will explore studies and a career in Environmental Science next year.
This year marks the forum's 40th year of inspiring young scientists from all around Australia. Delivered by youth for youth, the program aims to give secondary school students a broader understanding of the diverse study and career options available in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and to encourage continued studies in these fields. Please check out this link to the NYSF to learn more about the program.
Thank you to our Youth Chair Amanda Hough for liaising with both RC Grovedale Waurn Ponds and RC Highton to enable our joint sponsorship of Zach’s participation in the NYSF.
Our future is in good hands!
Making Sure Our Hard-Earned Effort Has the Greatest Impact
It is time to start thinking about where the results of our fund-raising activities are distributed to, to make a difference in our local community, statewide, nationally, and internationally.
Rather than jump immediately to any one organisation or group we should firstly be strategic and use for example Rotary’s 7 Areas of Focus as a guide: Promoting peace, Fighting disease, Providing clean water, sanitation, and hygiene, Saving mothers and children, Supporting education, Growing local economies, and Protecting the environment, to guide our priorities and decision making.
Our Directors and Committee Chairs, are in the process of arranging club committee meetings to discuss these two items:
- Club Strategic Plan
- What Area of Focus we could support and in turn which groups or organisations we can partner with to make an impact.
Most importantly, in preparation for these meetings could I ask you to start thinking about what local community, statewide, national and international needs we can support.
