President's Message

President's Report No 10
‘HAPPY FATHER’S DAY’ to all you Dads and Grandads (Grandpas, Pops, etc.,) although a day late, depending on whether you read this tonight or tomorrow morning… but all the same I do hope you were spoilt for the day, and managed to get outside and enjoy it, you couldn’t have had a more beautiful day to be out and about and enjoy the warmth on the body and the gentle breeze of Spring…!
I’m sure there are many who don’t have Father’s in their lives anymore, so to those we send a ‘Special message’…!
Well I do hope you are all well and keeping safe and not too disappointed with Dan’s ‘roadmap’ rules, we can only hope that with all the hard work we’ve all put in by staying safe that there will light at the end of the tunnel sooner rather than later and we will get back together again to see one another face to face, it’s just not the same looking at you all through a screen, although if you’re like me a screen is a great way to hide the ISO rest of me…!!
We had a busy club meeting last week following the Board meeting held earlier, but it was good to have DG Phil and Judy stay on and join us as well as AG David Sykes. All three gave us some time and talked about their various visions and projects and I thank you all for attending as this was an important occasion. There will be a full report sent out to you very soon.
We will have, once again, have a special, return, guest tomorrow night. Graham Doodson from the Rotary Club of Torquay, UK, he is joining us to talk about their 100th Anniversary coming up and I assume on just how they’ll go about it, as their restrictions are quite different to ours. So, come along and see how the other side of the world are coping.
Once again our Club will promote and fund-raise for the valuable "Lift the Lid" Mental Health Research Program for Australian Rotary Health (ARH).
Due to COVID-19 this year our Club will be holding a "Virtual" Crazy Hat Competition which will be judged at our weekly "Zoom" Meeting on 12th October. This fundraising event will be open to the entire global community as it is a virtual competition.
Further details will be available in next weeks Bulletin, so start preparing your craziest hats and get photographing to raise funds for the cause.
Australian Rotary Health is one of the largest independent funders of mental health research within Australia.
Everyone who joined in on Monday 10th August heard Catherine Eagleson speak about joining the Clue Detective puzzle Agency and then joined in for some fun solving a puzzle together !!
For those who missed out you can relive the experience VIEW MEETING HERE
As Catherine explained solving puzzles is great activity and a real health benefit during COVID lockdown at the same time contributing to Lift the Lid , Mental health research and raising funds for the Torquay Rotary Club.
For only $59.95 annual subscription / just $5 a month, you can have fun with puzzles at the same time contributing to the Club's 2020 fundraising efforts . This is just one good idea for fund raising when we are are limited in our normal fundraising efforts such as BBQs , Bunnings etc
I would sincerely encourage you to join the puzzles and ask friends and family to join as well -
If we could as a Club sell a number of memberships , we could make a big difference our fundraising
Torquay Rotary are now meeting online every Monday (excluding public holidays and the last Monday of every month when a Board Meeting will be held instead ) at 7:00pm. All Members are invited to participate and we have resumed a program including Guest speakers and some fun activities.
Visitors and Guests are very welcome. If you would like to join us please
Here's a challenge for everyone...….in these "different" times in which we are living there are more and more Clubs now holding on-line meetings so now it's easier than it's ever been to do a make-up.
You can do them from the comfort of your own home and you don't even have to get dressed up.
Let's have a club challenge to see who can do a make up form the most interesting city. Be sure to grab a screen shot of your meeting and send to me for the bulletin.
What a great way to meet other Rotarians from around the world and to find out how they are living through the COVID-19 lockdowns.
To make it easy the Rotary Club of Mount Lawley in WA have begun compiling a list of Clubs who are now holding On-Line Meetings to view the list click the link below.
Whilst we all are dealing with the COVID 19 Virus and the restrictions this has placed on our Club Meetings and all of us personally, our meetings will be held on ZOOM for the time being.
All details for how to log into the Zoom Meetings can be found in the article elsewhere in the Bulletin, on the Club Website & Facebook pages. remember that Guests are also available.
Club Members and friends also come together over the airwaves to meet and chat socially at the Friday night Happy Hour so I hope you can join in & enjoy the connection
