Last week was a night of giving which is a large part of what we are all about as a Club...... Helping others less fortunate than ourselves.
Firstly was $6,000 to Geelong Kokoda Youth Program, who you will read all about in Chris Sims Chairman's Report elsewhere in this bulletin.

Torquay Zeally Bay Probus Club
The Committee of this new club had their first meeting last Wednesday and the Foundation meeting for the club is to be held Wed 24th June at Torquay Improvement Association Hall. The club has already attracted 100 members including current Rotarians Gerard & Kathryn (Kathryn is Secretary), Bruce and Julie Smith, Alan and Dorothy Anderson and former Rotarian Gayle Eveans has a position on the Committe.
Interest has been so strong for this "mixed" Probus Club that there is a strong likelihood that a Monday Club could also be proposed in the near future.
As our club has sponsored the formation of this new club it is expected that we provide some of Rotarian volunteers to welcome and assist with the seating of the new members as they arrive for this inaugural meeting. If you are available on this day and able to help can you please contact Kathryn McNamara (the boss)on 0418 429147 to register.
Please remember that there is no regular Monday Night Meeting due the Queens Birthday public holiday. We will meet back at the Lions Village next Monday 15th June when we will have Max Lee presenting to us all about the Aqua Box Program. Guest speakers for the night on the topic Geelong Kokoda Youth Program were:

The Victoria Police Geelong Kokoda Youth Program gives teenagers an opportunity to share a life changing experience through positive interaction with role models within local communities. It also provides an avenue whereby police and local communities can have a positive relationship with young people who have had (or potentially will have) contact with police.
It is aimed to reduce the level of offending and anti-social behaviour of young people by working with partner agencies and programs in an attempt to break the cycle of offending. By involving local businesses and community groups it helps everyone understand youth within the community and helps to build a rapport and trust between police , business leaders , and young people.
In addition to providing a life-changing experience it promotes a re-engagement with school, employment, family, and the community as well as developing leadership skills. Importantly the program enables young people to learn the Kokoda story and appreciate what young Australians did during one of the most important campaigns in our country’s history. It also enables them to experience the local culture which is vastly different to our lives in Geelong and Torquay
Felix-Caddai Rose spoke of his experience as being part of the trek and the resultant positive effect on his life particularly with regard to schooling and part time employment. Andy Brittain also spoke on the success stories of participants from previous years
Donated funds cover trekking costs including equipment required for the walk , international and domestic airfares , visas and travel insurance , some clothing , and an intensive training program prior to the walk. President Gerard presented a cheque for $6,000.00 from the Rotary Club of Torquay that will provide sponsorship for one young person to participate in the 2015 program from 11th September 2015 to 20th September 2015 inclusive.

BlinkyBulb: an initiative of our Rotary District 9780 to help people recycle mercury containing fluorescent tubes and CFL globes.
Rotary Water & Environment Committee and Highlands Regional Waste Management Group developed the BlinkyBulb project to “Preserve Planet Earth”.
The aim of the project is to set up collection points for householders to have access to convenient, safe and cost-free disposal of their used fluorescent tubes/globes.
Collection points have been established, at local businesses and council centres. In Torquay the collection point is Faggs Mitre 10 Hardware.
Until this year Rachael Adami co-ordinated the Project in Torquay on behalf of our Club, ably assisted cannot run the project on here own. If you are able, please volunteer by contacting Darrel Brewin on 0417 185 071.

Notifying someone about changes to your meeting attendance is your responsibility!
Our meetings have catered dinners, so if you are unable to attend a meeting, or if your partner is unable to attend a designated Partner's Night, YOU MUST ADVISE us of your or your partner’s absence. This also applies if you are attending the meeting but not dining.
There are two ways to do this, either record the information in advance in the "Apology Book" that is available at each meeting or telephone 03-5222-2022. An answering service operates out of hours.
All apologies must be made no later than 9.00AM on the Monday of the meeting (unless other arrangements were addressed in the Bulletin).
If no apology is recorded by that time, the absentee member will be issued with an invoice to pay the Club the dinner fee of $25 for your non-attendance, and/or that of your partner if it is an official Partner's Night.
REMEMBER on "Partners Nights" it is assumed that you partner IS attending unless you apologise for them!
Remember if you are bringing guests or your partner (to a non-partner night) you need to notify us of the extra number of persons who will be attending.
Absence on travel is not an excuse. It must be recorded beforehand in the “Apology Book”.
