President’s Report

Hello,

Another busy week starting off with our Annual General Meeting at Kithbrooke Park on Monday night. We moved through the formalities then moved onto the special items which saw the club members vote unanimously to adopt the new Rotary International Constitution and Club By-laws.

PE Sue Currie was called upon to introduce her Board of Directors for 2025-2026:
President: Sue Currie
President Elect: vacant
Immediate Past President: Kelly Binyon
Vice President: Michael Reed
Secretary/Club Services: Neil Henderson Treasurer: Gerard Hogan
Community Service: Lesley Shedden
Foundation: Phil Beasley
 International: Ray Ayers
 Environment: Judy Rutter
Youth Services: Amanda Hough
Membership: Bruce Turner
Public Image: Kelly Binyon
Ray Ayres gave an update on his planned trip to Lese Olai in PNG this coming week.

Linda Neale updated us on the Community Walk to Say No to Family & Domestic Violence (see her report and pictures further in the Bulletin) that was held the following morning. She also reminded members to bring donations for Torquay Food Aid next week (non perishables for Xmas hampers). Plus a call up for bbq & resale shed volunteers (thanks to all who put their names down).

Daryl Lee thanked members for purchasing raffle tickets at the previous meeting - over $5000 was raised in support of Say No to Domestic Violence by the Strathmore Men’s Shed.
It was great to see a few members who have been travelling, back at the meeting. Bunnings BBQ this Sunday - please check the roster for this and upcoming events.

Looking forward to learning about our newish member Ray Ayers this coming Monday night.

 Regards, Kelly

Tour the Nature Strip Project in Geelong

Collections

Our Village

On 13th October 2025 we are having a Vocational Visit to Our Village. We would like to take in a Donation of items to assist them is providing much needed resources to families in need

The items we thought we would try and take are: - new socks and underpants – sizes 1- 16

  • Toiletries – suitable for children through to adults
  • Nappies and wipes
  • If your grandchildren have grown out of clean and non-stained clothing these would also be appreciated
  • Single bed bedding

Torquay Food Aid

I have been for a tour around Torquay Food Aid and now have a list of items that we could donate to them when we complete our collection by the middle of December. At the present time they are spending between $200 and $500 per week just to have enough supplies for those who come in requiring food. The more we can help the better. Maybe put one extra item in your trolley each week and you may not notice that on your weekly shop.

What we can donate to help.

  • Food Items – Canned Soup, canned Spaghetti and baked beans, small cans of fruit, canned corn and tomatoes, tomato sauce, Long Life Fruit juices and milks, canned Christmas Hams, and Biscuits – both savoury and sweet
  • Toiletries, toothbrushes and toothpaste, washing detergent and soaps
  • Thinking of Christmas – chocolate and chocolate biscuits; lollies, soft drink, and maybe bon-bons

Knitting

If anyone likes knitting and doesn’t have anything to knit – Our Village will always accept knitted children’s clothing. Baby clothing is always needed

We will also try to make more blankets for delivery in May 2026, just before winter. People can make squares (Cast on 45 stitches – 8ply yarn and size 4 needles, knit until a square is achieved) or you can continue to knit on 45 stitches until 190cms is reached. Cast off.

More about Morimonda Abbey

Morimondo Abbey (in italian Abbazia di Morimondo) is located in the municipality of the same name, near Abbiategrasso, in the Ticino Park (province of Milan). Founded in 1134 by Cistercian monks from Burgundy, it is one of the oldest abbeys in Lombardy.

The building, constructed in the Romanesque-Gothic Cistercian style, stands out for its simplicity and essentiality, typical of the order: the church has a Latin cross plan with three naves, semicircular apses, and ogival cross vaults. The spaces of monastic life developed around the cloister: the chapter house, refectory, dormitory, and work rooms.

Over the centuries, the abbey has suffered damage and undergone restoration, but today it is largely open to visitors. In addition to the church and cloister, there is a museum trail illustrating the life of the monks, medieval agriculture, and the history of the abbey

Torquay Rotary Satellite Club of Music progress

Thank you to all members and partners who came along and supported the first information session for the Satellite Club of Music.  The small committee working on establishing this new club really appreciates your interest and support.

We had over 20 interested people come along to hear about the club.  our focus was the vision for the club and why a community club - a Rotary Club - focussed on music.  thank you to Trevor Pickles, Erika Turner and Bruce Turner for excellent presentations and for then fielding lots of questions from the floor. We now have a group of 18 people who have said they are interested in attending a second session where we will get into a lot more detail abut how the club might work and projects it might focus on.

For a feel of what we talked about, here a links to some of the videos we played:

Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen

Collated music clubs from across the world

Power of Music on the brain

The second session is being planned for the first week of October.  More detail to come

Could all those who help with any catering, including barbeques, please complete the Food Handling Topics on this link?
This is to ensure that correct food handling occurs at our barbeques and you understand why it is done.
