President's Report No 5
Hello Rotarians!
Another busy week that kicked off with our “Christmas in July” held at Kithbrooke Park. By all accounts it was a great night and I thank all those that helped organise the night-especially PE Jan Emmett. Whilst you were all getting festive I was attending the Group 9 & 10 Combined President’s Meeting. A couple of things to come out of it were:
1. End Polio movie night at Readings Waurn Ponds Fri 20th Sept to watch “Ride Like A Girl”, cost $20 plus raffle (each Club to supply item(s) for raffle. Aiming for 200+ attendees so consider taking family or friends along
2. There was strong interest in the Donate Life - Mary Elliott Legacy with Maggie being invited to speak at a number of clubs
Thank you to everyone who is attending tomorrow night’s DG Dinner in Belmont-I am proud of the Torquay Rotary Club’s large contingent!
On an exciting note our exchange student (Lin Yi) Ting, from Taiwan, arrives next Saturday to start her year long exchange starting with the Host family of our newest Rotarian Alanna Begg.
On Wednesday night I attended the Australian Rotary Health Network Scholarships Catch Up at the Institute for Koorie Education at Deakin Uni with guest Carla Egan. We were blown away by the students who are supported by these scholarships-most are studying nursing. Then we were introduced to the PHD students who are Ian Scott Fellows (he is the founder of ARHN) and what they are studying is amazing. Ask me about grasshoppers! Taking a guest was an incredible way of showcasing Rotary in a just a few hours. So glad I went to this event and we should look at this as potential area to support.
I popped out to Woolies at North Torquay to see the Donate Life crew doing a marvellous job of educating the community on all things to do with organ donation. Great work by the team supporting Mary Elliott’s Legacy!
Looking forward to Gaynor’s report from the Membership & Public Image Seminar held on Saturday. Can all members please consider bringing one guest who may have an interest in learning more about Rotary in a casual relaxed manner to our “Dinner with a Difference” at The Sands on Monday 12 August. We want this to be a fun evening with the aim of building new connections in our community. Thank you in advance.
Well as usual it takes forever to prepare for Christmas then it’s over and done with in a couple of hours…!!!
But I think everyone would agree that our ‘Christmas In July’ on Monday turned out a great night of fun, good food and great fellowship, with the company of our guests.
We had fun with some Trivia questions that Bruce put together for us and gave our memories and brains a bit of a workout, well done Mike Reed’s table as they were the winners of the Trivia, winning by just one point… hope you all enjoyed the chocolates..?!
We enjoyed a wonderful meal, with all the trimmings, as usual, created by the amazing Rod and Lorraine and delivered to us by one of Santa’s little helpers, Darcy..! a HUGE thank you again for our yummy Christmas feast.
Our other winners for the evening were.. Bruce Smith for just being brave enough wearing an outfit that he wasn’t expecting to wear when he first got there, but wore it with pride nonetheless, together with his input to the nights festivities, we said thank you with a bottle of wine of his choice.
This left us to the last part of the evening where another bottle of wine was won, this time by Josie Fratantaro, who, unbeknown to her, was sitting on the lucky ticket stuck under her chair… well done to all our winners and hope you all enjoyed yourselves.
All of us know at least one person that might be a good fit for Rotary, whether that person be a colleague, family member or frien
We would like you to ask them to
