President's Report No 11

Welcome to Teams!

We had 30 people join us on Monday evening for our introduction to Teams, including Lea Clements from The Rotary Club of Rizal West.
Howard and Lesley facilitated a very informative session, and answered many questions asked by our members.
It has been recommended everyone spend time on Teams using the program and becoming a little more familiarised and ‘practice’ what we were taken through Monday evening.
Teams is our ‘new’ online meeting platform for our club – so please do not use any of the zoom links you may have saved, as they won’t work.
For all our online meetings, you will (still) be sent a link for you to use to join the meeting.

Howard, Lesley, and Greg Plumridge have kindy offered to help anyone out. If you have the need, please send one of them an email --- or give them a call.

The Rotary Club of Geelong West were to have their Book Fair this weekend. Due to current restrictions, this has had to be cancelled, and rescheduled to next year.

We had our monthly board meeting on Monday.
Planning will commence for ‘Lift the Lid’ Crazy hat event, raising funds and awareness of Mental Health.
Late October is World Polio Awareness.
Our famous Pets on Parade is to return.
There will be more information on these programs/projects in the near future ……

As we roll into another week (at least) of Lockdown it is probably most likely that we will be meeting again on "Teams" for our Social Meeting next week so please watch your emails for updates.

Short and sweet this week!

President Michael smiley

Well ….. this weather has encouraged a few of us to get out in the garden.
I guess like us, there has been a few people turning soil and planting seeds and seedlings that will hopefully evolve into ‘fruit and vegies’ to be enjoyed …..

It made me think of this old fella – and help from his dearly beloved son ……

Lateral Thought !

Post Brownlow AFL Footy Meeting on Teams
You are invited to our post Brownlow Social Night.

Monday 20th September 2021 at 6.30pm

Unfortunately due to COVID restrictions we are unable to meet anywhere Face 2 Face so we will again be meeting using Microsoft "Teams" (see link below)

Thanks to the "Master of Fun" aka the "Wandering Rotarian" who is finally back home, Neil Henderson, we have a cracking guest presenter for the evening.

Brett Allen is a retired Australian rules football Field umpire in the Australian Football League. He umpired 346 career games in the AFL since his debut in 1992.

He is fifth on the AFL Umpiring all-time records for the number of finals games officiated, with 33, which is one behind fellow 2007-listed umpire Darren Goldspink. He has also won the All Australian Umpire of the year four times over his AFL career: in 199920002002 and 2006.

He announced his retirement on 5 September 2007, citing the increase in interstate travel and training required to umpire at the highest level.

He was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2017. On 24 October 2000, Allen was awarded the Australian Sports Medal for his contribution to the game.

This will be a speaker "not to be missed" as I am sure many of you will have questions to fire at him regarding umpiring from a spectators viewpoint.

The meeting is on Monday 20th September 2021 and will begin at 6.30pm and I suggest that you logon 10 or 15 minutes early to ensure your connection is working and to engage in some social banter.

You are also welcome to invite friends and guests to join us by forwarding this email containing the Teams Link to them.

Meals will be "self served" and Drinks at "Home" priceslaughlaughlaugh

Please click on the link below to join the meeting.

Donations in Kind Latest Shipping Update
200 students live in Lese village, the rest of the students are all from neighbouring villages.

The students of Lese Oalai were told at assembly  on Monday, that the orange container from Lucy has arrived in POM.
And the teachers and headmistress said, the loud cheering from their 1,000  students has given them extra motivation and inspired them all to excel. They are ready to deliver donations to their neighbouring schools and will take photos to share on Facebook.

Even the teachers, and the village are ready to help distribute to the other schools in Gulf.
We have given them hope. It's a small gift to them, but for them, it's like a brand new Xmas gift. They will forever been grateful 💝🇵🇬

Make-Ups......it's Never Been Easier

Here's a challenge for everyone...….in these "different" times in which we are living there are more and more Clubs now holding on-line meetings so now it's easier than it's ever been to do a make-up.smiley

You can do them from the comfort of your own home and you don't even have to get dressed up.laugh

Let's have a club challenge to see who can do a make up form the most interesting city. Be sure to grab a screen shot of your meeting and send to me for the bulletin.

What a great way to meet other Rotarians from around the world and to find out how they are living through the COVID-19 lockdowns.

To make it easy the Rotary Club of Mount Lawley in WA have begun compiling a list of Clubs who are now holding On-Line Meetings to view the list click the link below.

Rotary International & District 9780 Info

Shekhar and Rashi Mehta at their home in Kolkata. Rashi painted the picture Mother and Child, behind her.

When I met Shekhar almost 20 years ago, he was busily manning a booth at the Rotary International Convention. His enthusiasm and energy in showcasing his club’s projects were infectious. A project man myself, I was inspired by the work exhibited at the booth. That casual encounter developed into a strong friendship.

Shekhar is a visionary leader. He always sees things others can’t. He envisaged a way to eradicate illiteracy in India by 2025 and designed the TEACH program (which stands for Teacher support, E-learning, Adult literacy, Child development, Happy school). He started the Shelter Kit project that now is in the vanguard of disaster relief in India. His Saving Little Hearts project, which provides heart surgeries to thousands of children, along with the more than 15 eye hospitals he helped establish, which have served hundreds of thousands, speaks to the scope of his dreams.

Ravi Vadlamani

Rotary Club of Guntur, India
2001-02 governor of District 3150

He has an exceptional talent for building teams and driving them to achieve their goals. Shekhar’s programs and ideas may seem larger than life, but he always walks the extra mile to make Rotarians feel at home.

His power of dreaming big is backed up by planning, perseverance, and patience. He’s an excellent communicator who connects with his audience instantly and can motivate people to move mountains. He is also a family man, ably supported by his spouse, Rashi.

Shekhar’s X factor as a leader? Nobody is able to say no to him when he asks for something.
