Presidents Report

Spring is well and truly here with us and for those of us that suffer from hay fever it's time to break out the anti-histamines.  As I mentioned at the meeting we are looking for volunteers to work at two BBQ events this month.  The first one is on 11th raising funds for the Leukaemia Foundation.  The second is the annual Eumeralla Cycling event on 25th which will help raise funds for the project account.  I urge all of you that are able to volunteer  to assist at these events.  Remember the old adage - "Many hands make light work.".

Councillor Eve Fisher provided us with an interesting overview of her trip to Europe and her views on sustainable electricity generation options for the future.  More information on this topic appears elsewhere in this bulletin.

The District Governor Geoff James and his wife Meryl will be visiting our Rotary Club on 6th October.  This is a partners night as mentioned previously.  We will also have an Aquabox on display so you will be able to see what the proceeds from our fine sessions are going towards.

That's all from me have a great week

Cr Eve Fisher and Community Owed Energy

.
Cr Eve Fisher has been a Councillor on the Surf Coast Shire Council for the past two years.  Eve is single, a Journalist with the Age and has three passions in life, her two dogs, local government and community owned energy.

Eve was the Municipal Association of Victoria’s Fellowship recipient in 2013 and this provided Eve with the opportunity to travel overseas to research first hand communities which had achieved self sufficiency in relation to their energy requirements. This $10,000 bursary went part of the way of funding her 3 month trip to the USA, Denmark and Germany during November  2013 and January 2014.

TORQUAY ROTARIANS I NEED YOUR HELP!!!

TORQUAY ROTARY CLUB is again joining in the global fight against cancer.

We are getting together a TEAM representing our Club to participate in the

Relay For Life 2014 at Surf Coast on November 8/9 at Banyul-Warri Fields

What is Relay For Life?
  • Relay for Life is a chance for communities to recognise and celebrate those who have overcome cancer or are undergoing treatment, as well as the people who care for them. Relay also provides an opportunity to celebrate the memory of loved ones lost to cancer.
  • We are hoping that our Board will make a donation to Relay for Life and we would like to have a fundraiser of some kind in October – ideas very welcome
  • Everyone then meets at the Relay to celebrate the amazing fundraising achievements of the past year. Teams participate in a relay-style walk or run, challenging them to stay on the track overnight.
  • Each event is unique and you can stay for the whole event and camp overnight, enjoy the fun activities and attend the moving ceremonies that make Relay For Life so special.

  • Put your thinking cap on to plan our team theme, campsite decorations and costumes. It all adds colour to the event.
  • Each person on the team pays a registration fee, which includes a shirt and breakfast in the morning. There are no age limitations or fitness requirements – Relay For Life is suitable for everyone. To join in the fun,  register online today.
By being part of OUR TEAM ROTARY you’re helping people from diagnosis and treatment, to recovery and beyond.
You are all affected by cancer – either knowing someone dear to you who has cancer, or having been affected yourself
I will be sending around a schedule of times available very soon
Meanwhile check out our Team on the following link & register today

If you wish to participate in the Relay you will first be required to register for the event.Registration will cost you $20 for which you will receive your 2014 RFL shirt to wear on the day.

Thanks

MEETING APOLOGIES - What do I do?

Notifying someone about changes to your meeting attendance is your responsibility!

Our meetings have catered dinners, so if you are unable to attend a meeting, or if your partner is unable to attend a designated Partner's Night, YOU MUST ADVISE us of your or your partner’s absence.  This also applies if you are attending the meeting but not dining.

There are two ways to do this, either record the information in advance in the "Apology Book" that is available at each meeting or telephone 03-5222-2022.  An answering service operates out of hours.
  • All apologies must be made no later than 9.00AM on the Monday of the meeting (unless other arrangements were addressed in the Bulletin).
  • If no apology is recorded by that time, the absentee member will be issued with an invoice to pay the Club the dinner fee of $25 for your non-attendance, and/or that of your partner if it is an official Partner's Night.
  • REMEMBER on "Partners Nights" it is assumed that you partner IS attending unless you apologise for them!
Remember if you are bringing guests or your partner (to a non-partner night) you need to notify us of the extra number of persons who will be attending.

Absence on travel is not an excuse.  It must be recorded beforehand in the “Apology Book”.
Not all of us were able to make the trek to District Changeover in June, however I am sure that members of our Club would prefer not to have to wait until DG Geoff's Club visit on 6th October to get to know more about him and his vision for District 9780.
........well  thanks to District Media Guru Tony Stewart and modern technology you can hear DG Geoff James acceptance speech by CLICK HERE or follow the link below (Please Note:- you may need to view this bulletin in your web browser to see the link below)
