President's Message 21 March 2026

Hello,

Chair Report:

On Monday we heard from Steve Richards from ‘Welcome to Barwon’.

Members may recall Steve and his colleague talking to us 2 years ago when Welcome to Barwon were sponsoring a family who were moving out to Australia.

This family (The Mahmoods) settled in well and are now living in Craigieburn where they are working, living and are ‘self-sufficient’ …. They are very happy! …. And so grateful to Welcome to Barwon and The Torquay Rotary Club for the generosity and donations of goods given to them.

Welcome to Barwon is sponsoring another couple, this time from Pakistan.

They are due to arrive on 23rd April, this year.

Steve and his wife have set up their house to include a ‘B&B’ style set up – where this couple will live for up to 12 months, giving them time to find work and settle into the community.

Steve and his wife are renovating their house, which will include a new kitchen. Steve said Welcome to Barwon is seeking assistance with kitchen appliances for the new kitchen for these people to use.

Other than the kitchen appliances, the house will be furnished and ready to move into.

Wishing you all a great weekend and week ahead.

Take care,
Kelly

Club Meeting Changes

ALL MEMBERS – CHANGES TO OUR REGULAR CLUB MEETINGS

News from Thursday’s Board Meeting
1. Commencing from the meeting on Monday April 13 th , we are bringing our time forward by
half an hour. You will arrive at 5.30pm for 6pm start. We are conscious that once daylight
savings ends and with parking not that close, we want to be able to arrive in daylight.

2. More good news – effective immediately the price to attend meetings but not have a meal,
will reduce from $10 to $5. This reflects the fact that we no longer pay a room charge for the
Lakeside room.

Weekend Of BBQs

Weekend of Barbeques

Thank you to all those who helped out at the weekend's BBQs. You make such a difference to our Community Service and Fund Raising.

Saturday was held at Kieser as a Community Service/PR exercise. Some of the clients generously made donations to us - $57.00 worth which is amazing. We had a lovely social day, as we were not rushed off our feet. We were able to chat to some of the local Community, and they could ask about Rotary and what we do. I would also like to Thank Kieser for their generous donation to our Fund Raising and thank you for making us so welcome.

Sunday was at Cowrie Market – beautiful weather, but not a huge crowd. We did not have an overly busy day; however, our income was a pleasant surprise. Well done everyone; made the day worthwhile.
