Another big night for the Club. As a direct result of members' efforts on ANZAC Day a cheque for $6,531.30 was presented to the Torquay RSL. The Club also donated $4,000.00 to Disaster Aid Australia for the purchase of five Family Survival Packs for cyclone devastated Vanuatu; and a donation of $1,650 was made to the Spring Creek Community Centre to assist with the distribution of their periodic Springboard Newsletter. None of this could have been possible without the hard work by Club members throughout the past year. I would like to offer a personal vote of thanks to all of those who contributed to this effort and to James Taylor and the Team at the Surfcoast Times for the great article in last weeks paper(see above)
Our new Sergeant-at-Arms did an excellent job of fleecing us all once again. Of course all money raised during fines sessions will be donated to the Aquabox project at the end of this Rotary year.
Our speaker this week was Andrew Pipkorn, the District Chair for Australian Rotary Health. He gave an excellent presentation. Further information about his presentation appears elsewhere in this edition.
Remember the meeting on 18th may will be held in the Bistro at the Jan Juc Hotel. That's all from me this week.
Yours in Rotary Service,
Gerard McNamara

Gaynor Schols is the new ROMAC Southern Region Chair, managing all districts in Victoria and Tasmania. Gaynor spoke to us about ROMAC, Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children, which is an RI-approved programme owned, funded and staffed by all Rotary clubs in Australia and New Zealand.
The mission of ROMAC is “To provide medical treatment for children from developing countries in the form of life saving and/or dignity restoring surgery not accessible to them in their home country”
Many of these children will die without treatment.
Priority is given to those countries that form part of Australian or NZ Rotary Districts (PNG, Timor Leste, Fiji, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu).
Since ROMAC began in 1988, 385 children have been treated.
Gaynor spoke about some of the recent patients treated in Victoria including Failyne, a wonderful young girl from Vanuatu, pictured at left.
Two new patients are booked in at Monash Medical Centre this month. Lihn Da Vo will undergo major facial reconstruction and Otto Kepae will have cardiac surgery.
Fundraising is obviously a major part of ROMAC’s work so all Rotary clubs are asked to give an annual donation to keep this wonderful programme going, but private donations are also gladly accepted.
ROMAC requires volunteers to work on committees and help care for patients and parents when they are in Melbourne. If you would like to volunteer your time or are able to offer accommodation and care for short term stays during recuperation, please contact Gaynor by email to gaynor.schols@gmail.com
MORE INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE ON THE ROMAC WEBSITE: http://www.romac.org.au

Notifying someone about changes to your meeting attendance is your responsibility!
Our meetings have catered dinners, so if you are unable to attend a meeting, or if your partner is unable to attend a designated Partner's Night, YOU MUST ADVISE us of your or your partner’s absence. This also applies if you are attending the meeting but not dining.
There are two ways to do this, either record the information in advance in the "Apology Book" that is available at each meeting or telephone 03-5222-2022. An answering service operates out of hours.
All apologies must be made no later than 9.00AM on the Monday of the meeting (unless other arrangements were addressed in the Bulletin).
If no apology is recorded by that time, the absentee member will be issued with an invoice to pay the Club the dinner fee of $25 for your non-attendance, and/or that of your partner if it is an official Partner's Night.
REMEMBER on "Partners Nights" it is assumed that you partner IS attending unless you apologise for them!
Remember if you are bringing guests or your partner (to a non-partner night) you need to notify us of the extra number of persons who will be attending.
Absence on travel is not an excuse. It must be recorded beforehand in the “Apology Book”.
