President's Message 07th September 2024
Bruce Turner
President’s Message
Greetings and welcome. Thank you for joining our online news and updates.
Thank you to the Surf Coast Mayor, Cr Liz Pattison for attending our club meeting on Monday night as our guest speaker. As this meeting was so close to the Council’s Caretaker period, there are quite specific guidelines around what Councillors can discuss and with that in mind the Mayor’s presentation concentrated on Council Achievements. It was quite an informative evening and very interesting to learn of the source of funding for many of the projects currently underway in our area. I must apologise for the lack of a photographic record of the evening as I neglected to arrange for a photographer, but I’m sure you can all “picture” our smiling (attractive) faces as we enjoyed our evening.
Lese Oalia
For those of you following the progress and the many aspects of the Lese Oalia project, you will be pleased to note that the amazing work is continuing with sensational results. If you are on Facebook, the most recent update can be found on the Torquay Rotary Club page and at District 9780 (click on this link). The skills Ned has passed on are obvious in the photos and I’m sure the newly trained “tradies” must be very proud of their work.
Member Feedback
Something to ponder…….. as I have been collating your feedback from the Member’s Satisfaction Survey, it is quite clear that there is a desire for our club to take on, or develop links with, Community Projects. This is certainly a worthwhile direction for our club to take, although it will involve considerable thought and planning. There will be many major steps in this process, including consideration of both community needs and any current or planned projects within the community. At this stage can I ask you to start thinking about possible projects/ideas so that when your committees look at the year’s activities you will have somewhere to start the discussion. Please note that I still require a few surveys to be returned.
