PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Welcome to our weekly Bulletin. Guess I need to concentrate on the Bulletin rather than watch finals footy. But if your team is in the AFL finals, I hope you have a successful weekend. (I did).

On Monday night we held our first Club Assembly for this Rotary Year. We had 21 people in attendance; which was fantastic. The night started off with attendees completing a written survey. Those who were not in attendance received the Survey via email. It would be amazing if you would complete the survey and return it to me – especially as there are areas where your input is important. It isn’t a complicated survey, but it helps us plan our year. We also asked participants what committee they would like to be on. If you were unable to attend, please let me know which committee you would like to be on – Community, Environment, Membership, International or Youth. It will be more successful if you have your say – rather me put you on a committee that you won’t like.

Following dinner, we then opened up the floor to discuss membership and how we as a club can attract new members. The ideas flowed and Rotarians had great ideas. We collected the ideas and will present it at a Rotary Meeting. I was extremely proud of the way ideas were presented and the amount of input people had. Thank you.

Information night coming up
We will be having an information night on 21st September at Oaktree so invite someone who we can introduce to Rotary and let them know what we are about. It would be amazing to increase our membership; but also, and equally as amazing, if we could get an increase in our Friends of Rotary. So please do you have someone you could invite to our Information Night? Bring them along

I did visit Judy R today and I sent the club’s love to her and let her know our thoughts and prayers were with her. Please keep both her and John in your thoughts.

Take care, stay safe and healthy. Till next week.
Linda

Stories

Science and Engineering Challenge State Final

Friday saw the State Finals of the Science and Engineering Challenge at Deakin.

Five of the Torquay Rotarians were part of the Supervising Team – Lesley S; Richard H; Bruce S; Kelly B; and Linda N.

What a great day and what interesting Challenges. The students never fail to amaze me on how they create such inventions out of what looks like paper, straws, lacquer bands, and sticky tape. There is a little bit more to it than that, but still incredible.

Nature strip gardens

As spring arrives, you may have noticed some nature strips that are shunning the mono-culture of grass [that needs constant mowing], for some beautiful, bee friendly plans or even just some low mintenance plants.

I have taken a few photos, to show how residents prepare the strip with manure or mulch and then plant into it.

The Surf Coast shire has guidelines and plant lists on their website to help to stimulate those your creative powers.

Why not have a go and reduce your mowing?
