Presidents Report

Well another big night.  It was good to see so many Rotarian partners at the meeting.  It just shows how popular the speakers were. Those of you who missed last week missed out on a very informative presentation from "the Bollens" on their recent Arctic Holiday.
Greg Plumridge gave us a report on the Ride the Bellarine event which was held the previous day.  It was a great success from all accounts.  Sponsorship for our intrepid representative Brian Mynott together with BBQ takings added up to a sizeable sum which the Board will be topping up as our Club contribution to the overall funds raised to help the fight against Polio cause.  A big thankyou to those Club members that volunteered on the day.

President-Elect Amanda Hough spoke to the members about District Assembly which is scheduled for 3rd May.  John McDonald and guest Kevin Egan spoke about the planning for Centenary ANZAC Day event Maggie Isom also spoke about planned social events for the coming year.  That's all from me this week so I will see all of you at the meeting.

Yours in Rotary Service,

Gerard McNamara

Anzac Day 2015

Another ANZAC Day Dawn Service has been & gone .

Despite lots of pre planning & an unusually large crowd, there was some confusion at times .

However ,overall the Event was a HUGE SUCCESS thanks to the help of all  Rotarians who participated.

A very special thanks must go to those partners& friends who played a key role in the overall success of the day.

Donations collected at the Program  distribution points  have not all been counted at this stage, however Treasurer Mike Reed will have a final figure for our meeting  tomorrow night Monday 27th April .

My rough estimate is that this will be in the vicinity of $5000 , which is about double that of what we collected last year.

In addition to this we will also have the proceeds from the Bar fridge raffle, kindly organised by Greg Plumridge to add to the total figure we will present to the RSL.

The raffle was drawn this afternoon at the RSL office.

Unfortunately no Torquay Rotarians were amongst the winners.

Thanks again for your help & support

Pencil this date in your diary and stay tuned for more details in next weeks bulletin about this Film Night to be held at "the Pivitonian" .on 18th May.

No doubt many of you will have read about this unique movie theatre situated in Geelong West.

A Pivotonian is an old name for the people of Geelong – known in the Gold Rush era as Pivot City.
The Pivotonian Cinema  wish to celebrate Geelong’s unique character, screening quality films every day in 2K Digital Cinema. Our films are hand-picked from around the globe and are complimented by our fully licensed Candy Bar offering delicious snacks to compliment your movie – without costing an arm and a leg!

Ride the Bellarine

On behalf of the Committee for the inaugural “Ride the Bellarine” I would like to thank you for your contribution to today’s event.

Particularly Brian Mynott who flew the flag as our Club's Representative riding the full 105klm  in atrocious weather even though he was carrying a severe dose of the Flu! Fantastic Job Brian. We will be running the sponsorship pledge form around again at tomorrow nights meeting for those of you who missed it last week. So if you would like to contribute to End Polio and show support for Brian's ride then this will be your last chance!

Despite the challenges the weather threw at us, all of the competitors that I spoke to during the event were unanimous that they had an enjoyable day, and are adamant that they will be back again next year with even more of their friends. Many competitors had come great distances to ride the event, one even from Canberra.

It was a very rewarding experience to see fellow Rotarians from all Geelong Clubs pool resources and working side by side. To those of you who endured bleak conditions out on the course marshalling, a special thank you, we could not have done it without you!

In coming weeks our Committee will hold a debrief of the event and will report back to you with the final wash-up of the funds raised to go back to District for End Polio.

As this was our first attempt at running this event we would welcome any feedback from you with suggestions.

Thank you again

Yours in Rotary

Greg Plumridge

A man and woman were married for many years.  Whenever there was a confrontation, yelling could be heard deep into the night.  The old man would shout, "When I die, I will dig my way up and out of the grave and come back and haunt you for the rest of your life!"
Neighbours feared him.

The old man liked the fact that he was feared.
Then one evening, he died when he was 98.
After the burial, her neighbours, concerned for her safety, asked, "Aren't you afraid that he may indeed be able to dig his way out of the grave and haunt you for the rest of your life?"
The wife said,  " Let him dig. I had him buried upside down...and I know he won't ask for directions.

MEETING APOLOGIES - What do I do?

Notifying someone about changes to your meeting attendance is your responsibility!

Our meetings have catered dinners, so if you are unable to attend a meeting, or if your partner is unable to attend a designated Partner's Night, YOU MUST ADVISE us of your or your partner’s absence.  This also applies if you are attending the meeting but not dining.

There are two ways to do this, either record the information in advance in the "Apology Book" that is available at each meeting or telephone 03-5222-2022.  An answering service operates out of hours.
  • All apologies must be made no later than 9.00AM on the Monday of the meeting (unless other arrangements were addressed in the Bulletin).
  • If no apology is recorded by that time, the absentee member will be issued with an invoice to pay the Club the dinner fee of $25 for your non-attendance, and/or that of your partner if it is an official Partner's Night.
  • REMEMBER on "Partners Nights" it is assumed that you partner IS attending unless you apologise for them!
Remember if you are bringing guests or your partner (to a non-partner night) you need to notify us of the extra number of persons who will be attending.

Absence on travel is not an excuse.  It must be recorded beforehand in the “Apology Book”.
