President's Report No 40
Monday evening’s visit to the Torquay Coast Primary School showed just how much schools and schooling has changed over the years. Principal Darren Roskosch gave a very informative tour around the school, which has been built to accommodate up to 400 students. The architectural design and the way students collaborate are light years from the old school I attended in industrial Yorkshire over 60 years ago.
I’ll try and get my facts right this week - our next meeting is a Vocational Evening at Geelong Mums – NOT at the Lions Village as reported last week. We will meet at 110 Balliang St, South Geelong at 6pm and the visit will be followed with dinner at the Grovedale Hotel. You can visit Geelong Mums at their website: https://www.geelongmums.org/
Back to school we all went last week to get an inside look at Torquay Coast Primary School and Principal Darren Roskosch who gave us an update on the growth and development of the school. We finished of the evening with a Culinary visit to Town & Country Pizza.
Just thought I would update the Committee on progress with the kitchen renovation.
The works are basically finished. The team from Silvercon will do a final wipe down and clean on Monday. The new dishwasher is installed and functioning. All other appliances are ready to go.
The new crockery and glasses should start arriving on Monday. Staff will gradually work to return the cutlery and other retained items to the kitchen.
There is a small area of joinery to be completed to enable smooth operation of the dishwasher.
Given the upcoming holidays with Easter and Anzac Day, the kitchen should be ready to be used by groups from May 6th.
The meeting room is complete, only needs the wipe down and then Village items can go back in the cupboards.
I am liaising with user groups to arrange a training session with the dishwasher expert so everyone knows how to use the new machine.
Kind regards,
Jenny Trezise
Manager
Lions Village Torquay
PS Our first Meeting back at "The Den" will be on 29th April.
Luckily the pic above is not of the actual refurb or there wouldn't be any space left for us to sit and eat......now let's see how many people actually read this ….Ed
On the 7th of September at 6.22am I will be leaving on a little journey from port Douglas in North Queensland to my final destination of THE ROCK (ULURU).YES I'm doing the Race To The Rock I've made the choice to attempt this somewhat crazy event. As the saying goes "Miles are my meditation" and this has what has got me here. So I've created this page because I want to make a difference. I want to raise awareness and support for both young males who have been touched buy mental illness as well as those in particular the young male carers like myself. I have been a main support and carer for my wife over the last 11 years and have been very isolated with minimal support until I found wellways . I'm inspired by the work of Wellways Australia Limited and wanted to support them by raising money. All money raised will go to this group to give opportunities for these young men to access activities and support Please help me by giving whatever you can using the 'Give Now' button. The more people that know about Wellways Australia Limited , the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!

Currently we are on our Nile River cruise for 3 nights. It is a welcome relief from what has been a fast paced tour but enjoying all the sights with our guide in Egypt who is an Egyptologist.

An elderly gentleman.... Had serious hearing problems for a number of years. He went to the doctor and the doctor was able to have him fitted for a set of hearing aids that allowed the gentleman to hear 100%
The elderly gentleman went back in a month to the doctor and the doctor said, 'Your hearing is perfect. Your family must be really pleased that you can hear again.'
The gentleman replied,
'Oh, I haven't told my family yet.
I just sit around and listen to the conversations. I've changed my will three times!'
PLEASE COME ALONG TO DISTRICT ASSEMBLY IN ARARAT on SUNDAY 28th April 2019
All members are welcome and encouraged to attend but it is essential that the incoming board members attend. This a great opportunity to learn more about Rotary and network with your fellow Rotarians.
The venue this year will be MARIAN COLLEGE, 304 Barkly St ARARAT.
Registration is at 9.30am and we should finish around 3.30pm
Please be aware that your Registration Fee will be reimbursed by our Club upon providing Treasurer John McDonald with your payment advice.
Please check your roster for our next BBQ Event which is the Cowrie Market on 21st April
Please note that to avoid any confusion what was previously known as the BBQ Roster has now been rebranded as the "Events" Roster. to reflect that it includes all events such as Night Jar Parking, the Book Fair etc.
If you make any more swaps please let me know and I will update the roster which can be found in documents in club runner
If you do require to swap a date for any reason you will now need to find someone to do this with yourself. I would suggest that you send the request to Greg who has offered to advertise on a BBQ Roster Trading Post in the bulletin

We are now fully operational with our new system for registering for our weekly dinner meetings. Called Whoozin, this program is used by other local Rotary Clubs with great success.
To make it easy for everyone I have prepared a Whoozin User Manual which is stored on Clubrunner under "Club Documents" that you will be able to print off if you wish.
In Summary the way it will work is:-
You will receive an initial email invitation each Monday for the following week's meeting.
You can immediately accept or decline, leave until later.
You will receive a reminder email on the Friday Prior
You will have until Midnight Sunday to register your RSVP and can change your decision right up until the closing time.
You can register up to 5 guests
You can specify any Special Dietary requirements
Please Note that if you do not register your intentions you will be charged for the dinner fee.
If you have any problems please free to contact myself Greg Plumridge 0418521321 or Michael Reed 0418524315 for details on how to work the program.
If you cannot meet one of your assigned duties, Please contact Bruce Smith to advise.
The duty team should arrive no later than 6:00 p.m. Besides the below duties, the assigned team is responsible for Room Setup, Greeting Members and Guests, and Room Tidy at the end of our meeting - see checklist in storeroom or click here .
