Good Evening Everyone,
I do hope everyone had a good week and hopefully feel a little better now that we can meet in groups of five (5) outdoors. I’m sure the ‘walking group’ will be back in full swing soon, at least the numbers are going down, slowly, but if we keep up the good work hopefully we can actually go Christmas shopping (only 14 weeks) instead of trying to do it all online..!
Which if that’s the way your thinking I’d start now as the postal deliveries will be a nightmare during the Christmas period, they’re bad enough now, something to think about I suppose…!
What a great night last Monday was with our guest speaker, Graham Doodson from the Rotary Club of Torquay, UK, he was a very interesting speaker who gave us an insight on how some things, don’t, change with time..! I really hope he can go back to his club and share with them that we can still function just as well without suits and ties and all the formality.
He gave us an insight on the everyday life in Torquay, Cornwall, and some of the highlights of their club and the 100th year celebration which is probably happening as we speak today. There were many questions asked which is always a good sign and one of them was on the ‘smuggling times’ in and around Devon and Cornwall, of which he has kindly sent us something the read on the subject. He did say, too, that he felt really at home with us and looks forward to a return visit and maybe we can join them one day and meet the rest of his club.
We also enjoyed acknowledging Club Services Director, Amanda’s’ 18yrs of Service with our club and receiving a well put together ‘Certificate of Congratulations’ made up by Secretary Maggie.
Rotarian Darrel Brewin is in the same league of long timers and again I will have the pleasure of presenting him with a Certificate of Congratulations too tomorrow night.
See further in the Bulletin for details of the following events:
Our guest speaker for tomorrow night will be Vicki Linnell from Barwon, Child Youth & Family.
On Wednesday 23rd September RC Kardinia will be hosting a presentation from Senator Sarah Henderson. The cost is $10, and the money is being used to support an Indigenous Nursing Scholarship at Deakin.
On Thursday 24th September there is an invitation from RC Highton to hear their guest speaker from RC Phnom Penh talking about Giving the Gift of Literacy in Cambodia.
On Friday 25th September there is an invite from Geelong East to attend their online Trivia Night - $20 per ticket. The details of these events can be found in ROTACT. Sounds like a bit of fun, see you there.
I, together with several other local Presidents will be having an informal meeting for a chat on Thursday nights and we’re hoping to make this a regular event. The general idea is to swap ideas, how we can help one another and to just generally see how we’re all coping with our year so far during this Covid time.
Keep well, Keep safe…
President Jan
