President's Report No 36

Hi Everyone,

Well this has been a very different Easter for all of us. But to be honest I have enjoyed the peace and quiet. Today was eerily silent around our neighbourhood except for birdsong, which was lovely.💗

Thanks to modern technology our family was able to “visit”, and I hope you’ve all been able to connect in some way shape or form📞📱🖥

Rona = No District Conference this year🙅🏻️...but we now have the opportunity to join an online presentation by the guest speaker this Tuesday (see further in the Bulletin for details). Purple House is the organisation for which we collected traveller sized toiletries.

Conference Speaker Series - The Purple House Presentation

Sarah Brown, The Purple House, will be presenting online on 14 April at 6.30pm

Sarah was to be a keynote speaker at the D9780 Conference in Swan Hill in March. Unfortunately, this conference had to be cancelled due to COVID-19, but Sarah has agreed to give her presentation online instead of in person.

Sarah is the CEO of The Purple House, an innovative Indigenous-owned and run health service operating from its base in Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. See the story with the link to the Webinar elsewhere in this bulletin.

💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Also if members could check their emails and read the Board Update📃

No meeting this week due to Easter but the following Monday we are excited to have our District Governor Roseanne Kava joining us! 💫

We will also be conducting our first ever online new member inductions & Returning Member presentation!! 🙋🏻🙋🏻🙋🏼️ We are certainly ticking off some firsts🥇

We will also have a guest presenter...to be advised. So lock in 7pm Monday 20 April for a jam packed meeting 🙌

I would like to finish with a quote that in my humble opinion sums up our current situation.

Stay safe, stay home & be kind.

Yours in Rotary Service,

Kelly 😌

No Meeting Monday 13th April - Easter Monday

Please remember that there will be NO Rotary Meeting Monday 13th April due to Easter Monday

Stay tuned for our next ZOOM meeting the week after on Monday 20th April

_______________
Join A Webinar with Sarah Brown from Puple House this Tuesday 14th April

DG Rosanne, invites you to join in an online presentation from Sarah Brown of The Purple House, SAVE THE DATE 14th April at 6.30 pm.

The disappointment of District Conference in Swan Hill being cancelled due to Covid 19 hit everyone hard, from the planning committee, to the Keynote Speakers, to those who registered to attend.  However, a series of online presentations from the Conference Guest Speakers has now been planned, so that everyone will be able to join in online to see and hear them.

Our first guest is Sarah Brown, who will join us from Alice Springs to share her message.  Click on this link at 6.25 pm Tuesday night to Join the Presentation

Sarah is the CEO of The Purple House, an innovative Indigenous-owned and run health service operating from its base in Alice Springs in the Northern Territory.

She was a remote nurse before that – and Australia’s nurse of the year in 2017.  She loves sharing the story of The Purple House, often speaking at local and Rotary events.

Now operating 16 remote clinics and a mobile dialysis unit called the Purple Truck, Purple House is getting patients back home so that families and culture can remain strong.

Sarah has built relationships with key corporate organisations and supporters to ensure the success of The Purple House mission. She is regularly invited to provide input development of government policies on remote health.

I look forward to welcoming you all to this inaugural presentation, with others to follow over the coming months.

DG Rosanne

After washing my hands 143 times yesterday ….

 SOME COVID-19 ONE LINERS

 1.  Half of us are going to come out of this quarantine as amazing cooks. The other half with a drinking problem
  2.  I used to spin that toilet paper like I was on Wheel of Fortune, now I turn it like I'm cracking a safe
  3.  I need to practise social distancing with the refrigerator
  4.  I still haven't decided where to go for Easter -  the living room or the bedroom
  5.  Every few days, try your jeans on just to make sure they still fit. Pajamas will have you believe all is well in the kingdom.
  6.  I don't think anyone expected when we changed the clocks, we'd go from Standard Time to the Twilight Zone
  7.  This morning, I saw my neighour talking to her cat again. It was obvious she thought her cat understood her. When I got back into the house, I told my dog and we both  laughed.
  8.  My body has absorbed so much soap and disinfectant lately that when I pee, it cleans the toilet.
  9.  I'm so excited it's time to take out the garbage. What should I wear?
10.  I hope the weather is good tomorrow for my trip to "Puerto Backyarda" cos I'm getting real tired of "Los Livingroom"
11.  Classified ad:
"Single man with toilet paper seeks woman with hand sanitizer for good clean fun"
12.  Better 6 feet apart than 6 feet under....!!

Make-Ups......it's Never Been Easier

Here's a challenge for everyone...….in these "different" times in which we are living there are more and more Clubs now holding on-line meetings so now it's easier than it's ever been to do a make-up.smiley

You can do them from the comfort of your own home and you don't even have to get dressed up.laugh

Let's have a club challenge to see who can do a make up form the most interesting city. Be sure to grab a screen shot of your meeting and send to me for the bulletin.

What a great way to meet other Rotarians from around the world and to find out how they are living through the COVID-19 lockdowns.

To make it easy the Rotary Club of Mount Lawley in WA have begun compiling a list of Clubs who are now holding On-Line Meetings to view the list click the link below.

Good Luck with the Challenge and I

Book Fair Brainstorm

I have been investigating new ways to dispose of excess books from the Book Fair. Apparently you can use them as interior walls. This is the foyer of the QT Hotel in Russell St, Melbourne.

Note the intended colour drift from dark to light.

Does anyone know any local architects or interior designers?

Bushfire Relief Donation Options - Be Sure The Money Reaches Those in Need
As much of Australia deals with the tragedy of Bushfires many donation funds are being set up by both government and private groups, and one of the most commonly asked questions is

"Which Charity will ensure that your donation dollars reach those in need?"

When you donate through Rotary you can be assured that over 97% of the monies raised will go directly to those in need.

We are very saddened by the devastating bushfires in our district and across Australia. If you are looking to donate to help those suffering, it is important to make sure your donation is well directed. Below are details of 2 Rotary funds which are assisting those affected.

1. RAWCS - Rotary Australia World Community Service National Fire Appeal
This is the only option for those who can only donate to a recipient with DGR (Donor Gift Recipient) status, or those who want tax deductibility on their donations. Go to www.rawcs.org.au to donate. To make sure the funds go to those affected by the fires in our district, tag the donation to ‘East Gippsland’. RAWCS do use 2.75% of the donations for administration.

2. East Gippsland Rotary Fire Aid Committee
This is an account of the Rotary Club of Bairnsdale with the funds controlled by the East Gippsland Rotary Fire Aid Committee. Rotary Club of Bairnsdale Projects Account BSB 633000 Acct 165960451. Please email the East Gippsland Rotary Fire Aid Committee when you donate eastgrotaryfireaid@gmail.com

Other worthy causes are:-

East Gippsland Hay Donations and transport costs
For those wishing to donate hay to East Gippsland or elsewhere it is being organised through ‘Need for Feed’

Go to http://www.needforfeed.org/  to arrange it.

The Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF) is coordinating fodder relief for farmers affected by bushfires in Gippsland and the Upper Murray. The VFF has secured an agreement with the Victorian Government to facilitate the transport of fodder to affected regions. This includes reimbursement of freight costs for transport of donated fodder.

Future Meetings
Whilst  we all are dealing with the COVID 19 Virus and the restrictions this has placed on our Club Meetings and all of us personally, future meetings will held through the ZOOM Platform.

All details for how to log into the Zoom Meetings can be found in the article elsewhere in the Bulletin, on the Club Website & Facebook pages. remember that Guests are also available.

Last week was an Introduction to ZOOM with over 30 Club Members and friends coming together over the airwaves to meet and chat socially

This week  arrangements have been made for one of the newer Club Members to present their personal story as a "Rotarian behind the Badge " session

These are testing times for all of us , however I am sure as Rotarians we can take up this challenge
