Dear Members,

This is just a quick report to say a huge thank you to every member of the Club who helped to make yesterdays Surf Coast Dog Walk such a success, and to remind you all that there is no meeting this week as a result of yesterdays hard work.
We have another busy month coming up in April, on Tuesday we have the Strathewen School coming for their annual beach visit. If you are interested in assisting with this event please contact Greg Plumridge.

For anyone interested in attending District Conference on 11-13 time is running out to book.

Mal Slater has offered to fill in as Community Service Director for the remainder of the Rotary year in Chris Fryar's absence and he will be putting out the call for helpers for all of the usual tasks on Anzac Day Friday 25th April, and of course we will be busy over Easter wth Bains Cres BBQ's.
As we will also miss another meeting due to Easter on the 21st April we will have quite full programs at the next 2 meetings so I encourage you all to attend.
Enjoy your night off tonight and I look forward to seeing you on the 7th April

Regards
Jeanette

Surf Coast Dog Walk a Great Success

What a great for the Surf Coast Dog Walk. The weather couldn't have been better and the people and dogs turned out in force.

Pre Event Registrations were good with 129 Adults, 24 Children, 106 Dogs, 24 Families. Another $410 of registrations were taken on the day.

There was a massive effort by all of the Club to prepare the site starting on Saturday afternoon with erection of the perimeter fence and main arena enclosures.

On the day we had assistance from a group of students from Sacred Heart College doing community service hours as well as some Bunnings staff.

The dogs participated in a 4 klm walk around the Torquay Golf Course to Bells Beach and back to the common. Upon their return there were Sheep Dog and Search & Rescue Dog demonstrations. In the other arena entrants were able to enter novelty events for "Most like their Owner" and best Costume Dog. Dog Races were held and Gail Chrisfield even collected a prize in that event.

Katie Hunter from Dogs for Kids with Disability had a display with more cute DKD dogs on hand and raised a lot of interest in her Charity. Mayor Rose Hodge attended to represent the Shire who were the major supporters of the event.

It will be a few days before all of the funds have come and the final calculations be made on how much the event has made.

So a big thank you Must go to all club members and the organising committee members who contributed to make the event such a success.

Thanks also to Rudi Schols, Mary Elliot & Greg Plumridge for a great collection of photos, if you would like to view all of them CLICK HERE

Congratulations to the Girls

This year the Annual Torquay Rotary Golf Day notched up a gear and was run as a Stableford Event. Whilst this is a more serious competition than has been held in recent years I am sure that Graeme Price would be proud to see the changes that have been made to both the course at which he spent much time playing the game, and the competition held in his honour.

Congratulations go to the team of Gail Rooney and Mary Armstrong who won this years event pictured here with the Graeme Price Perpetual Trophy. Thanks to the Event Organising Committee who ensured the success of the event this year and have plans to grow it going forward . We will provide a report to the club at a coming Club meeting detailing the profits from the event and the plans for next year

On the road with Gaynor & Rudi

Due to an accident the ROMAC CENTRAL REGION MANAGER (SOUTH AUSTRALIA) – Mr OLEH BILYK was unable to attend and man the ROMAC stand at District 9820’s Annual Conference held in Warrnambool.

Gaynor Schols (PHF) received a call 2 weeks ago and was asked to deputise on his behalf, which she gladly accepted.

Ably assisted by her driver and confidante Rudi (also a Torquay Rotarian) we tootled over to Warrnambool, some 2.5 hours drive away.

We were wonderfully billeted at the home of the ADG Judy Ross and husband Phillip for the 2 night stay.

Many fine speakers and presenters were witnessed on stage in between breaks Gaynor manned the ROMAC stand.

It was great to see that Rotary is so well represented by many friendly and dedicated Rotarians, even if they do live so far to the west of us.

An excellent BBQ closed the conference at 1pm on Sunday 23 Mar 2014.
