President's Report No 30
Hi Everyone,
Well I hope you’ve all enjoyed this glorious summer’s day...finally some decent weather!
Last week we were lucky to have Rotary Peace Scholar Anna Galvez present to the club and I for one found it fascinating. Check out www.rotary.org for more information on this Area of Service.
Our Global Grant Project assisting the people of Tonga to skill up in the area of prosthetics is underway with strong interest from professionals wanting to volunteer. To keep up to date check out the link on our website.
Tomorrow night’s meeting is all about assisting Ting (our youth exchange student) to raise funds for ‘Lift the Lid on Mental Health’. This is the nominated project all exchange students in our District are supporting this year. So come along, $5 to play plus auctions and raffles throughout the night.
Finally, today was a very special day...Rotary turned 115 years old! So here’s to Rotary-may we celebrate many more!
Last week we had Rotary Peace Solar Anna Galvez speak to us about her experience participating in that Rotary Program
Ana’s professional background includes the protection of human rights for migrant and refugee communities across Australia, Argentina and Israel and Palestine. Her leadership skills and passion to help improve equality and belonging for all was recognised by Rotary International when Ana was awarded a Rotary Peace Fellowship in 2007-2009. During this time Ana was based at the Rotary Peace Centre in Tokyo, Japan.
Chairman John Oswald will provide a more detailed report for next weeks Bulletin
Tomorrow Night is going to be our night for Ting to fundraise for this years Youth Exchange Team who are collecting for Australian Rotary Health ‘Lift the lid’ focussing on Mental Health.
Ting will be busy helping with this fundraising as her commitment prior to her heading to District Conference in March.
This night will be a Trivia night, with a Raffle and Snap Auctions, intermingled through the night. We are aiming to fundraise on the night.
Trivia $5 entry per person (donation) and bring your spare change (check under the couch!)

As much of Australia deals with the tragedy of Bushfires many donation funds are being set up by both government and private groups, and one of the most commonly asked questions is
"Which Charity will ensure that your donation dollars reach those in need?"
When you donate through Rotary you can be assured that over 97% of the monies raised will go directly to those in need.
We are very saddened by the devastating bushfires in our district and across Australia. If you are looking to donate to help those suffering, it is important to make sure your donation is well directed. Below are details of 2 Rotary funds which are assisting those affected.
1. RAWCS - Rotary Australia World Community Service National Fire Appeal This is the only option for those who can only donate to a recipient with DGR (Donor Gift Recipient) status, or those who want tax deductibility on their donations. Go to www.rawcs.org.au to donate. To make sure the funds go to those affected by the fires in our district, tag the donation to ‘East Gippsland’. RAWCS do use 2.75% of the donations for administration.
2.East Gippsland Rotary Fire Aid Committee This is an account of the Rotary Club of Bairnsdale with the funds controlled by the East Gippsland Rotary Fire Aid Committee. Rotary Club of Bairnsdale Projects Account BSB 633000 Acct 165960451. Please email the East Gippsland Rotary Fire Aid Committee when you donateeastgrotaryfireaid@gmail.com
Other worthy causes are:-
East Gippsland Hay Donations and transport costs
For those wishingto donate hayto East Gippsland or elsewhere it is being organised through‘Need for Feed’.
The Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF) is coordinating fodder relief for farmers affected by bushfires in Gippsland and the Upper Murray. The VFF has secured an agreement with the Victorian Government to facilitate the transport of fodder to affected regions. This includesreimbursement of freight costs for transport of donated fodder.
