Our Village – Final Call

On 13th October 2025 we are having a Vocational Visit to Our Village. We would like to take in a Donation of items to assist them is providing much needed resources to families in need

The items we thought we would try and take are: - new socks and underpants – sizes 1- 16

  • Toiletries – suitable for children through to adults
  • Nappies and wipes
  • If your grandchildren have grown out of clean and  non-stained clothing these would also be appreciated
  • Single bed bedding

Torquay Food Aid – Christmas Donation

I have been for a tour around Torquay Food Aid and now have a list of items that we could donate to them when we complete our collection by the middle of December. At the present time they are spending between $200 and $500 per week just to have enough supplies for those who come in requiring food. The more we can help the better. Maybe put one extra item in your trolley each week and you may not notice that on your weekly shop.

What we can donate to help.

  • Food Items – Canned Soup, canned Spaghetti and baked beans, small cans of fruit, canned corn and tomatoes, tomato sauce, Long Life Fruit juices and milks, canned Christmas Hams, and Biscuits – both savoury and sweet
  • Toiletries, toothbrushes and tooth paste, washing detergent and soaps
  • Thinking of Christmas – chocolate and chocolate biscuits; lollies, soft drink, and maybe bon-bons

BOTTLE TOPS

Please remember to bring your bottle tops to meetings, so they can be
taken to the recycling centre in Moolap. Best if you can tip them into my
large collection bag, each meeting.

CANS AND OTHER CONTAINER DEPOSIT SCHEME ITEMS
CDS = Container Deposit Scheme – Victoria
We are the last state in Australia to take up this scheme, which aims for the circular
economy of recycling containers. 10c is recovered from each can or eligible item
returned.
*** FUN FACT: Aluminium can be recycled multiple times without loss of material
integrity yet it takes ENORMOUS amounts of energy and water to manufacture from
the raw mineral.
The money from this scheme can be donated to Rotary! We can have everyone who
deposits at the drop points or the RAPID depot at Breakwater nominate our club as
the charity that receives the 10c.
All proceeds go directly to our account. Over time, this can quickly accumulate and
give us a revenue stream that will help with our projects.
As soon as we can get our club on the list of charities in the app, I will let you know. I
will give you some more details of what and where you can recycle; how to install the
app; how to tell all your friends and businesses! This has potential to be a good
earner.
Before then, if you would like to bring in cans (uncrushed) and I will hold on to them.
