Presidents Report No 29

From the President

Hello everyone and a huge thank you to you all for your participation and assistance last weekend with the Book Fair, Nightjar Market Parking and Cadel Evans Road Race marshalling.
I don’t have final financial details fro these events, but know these were very profitable ventures for the Club.
A special thank you and congratulations for all your work to Rhonda Anchen, Gail Birchell and the Book Fair committee. I think it is safe to say the Book Fair is likely to be an annual fixture on our calendar.  Our aim, or is it challenge, is to become self-sufficient in books, though this requires both collections through the year and storage space.
Congratulations also to Brian Mynott and your team involved in parking.  I was pleased to help out for a short time on Thursday and gained an insight into what ‘Nightjar Market Parking’ actually means.  This year has been a particularly busy one and I am sure will also continue next year.  Well done.

Motor Show preparations now almost done
We now move to our major individual fund raising event for the year – the Motor Show on Sunday 12 February 2017.
Preparations and planning are now almost complete and you should have received an email with details of your allocated tasks.  Please contact Vernon or Amanda  immediately if you are unable to carry out any allocated duties so an alternative can be put in place.
Our meeting on Monday will focus on these preparations for the Motor Show.

Adoption of the Rotary Club of Torquay Child Protection Standard
At our last board meeting on 12 December, 2016, the Board adopted the Rotary Club of Torquay Child Protection Standard as policy.  This standard contains the Code of Conduct, which you each must accept.  As Monday is our first formal meeting since 12 December, we will ask you also to adopt the policy.
You have received an email from Peter Bollen, our Child Protection Officer, containing this document and asking that you sign the code of conduct and return it to Peter.  If you have questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch or to raise them on Monday.  The document is also now in Clubrunner

Early notice of calls for nominations for DG 2019 - 2020
We are advised that we will shortly receive information regarding calls for nominating our DG for 2019-20.  Please consider suitable candidates from within our club and so we can submit when the official information comes out.

Motor Show 2017

Our 10th Anniversary Motor Show is looming quickly with a little over a week to go.

As usual there are many tasks to be filled and Vernon will be presenting the Roster this weekend. So please take a look and if you require changes please advise him ASAP.
Some of you will have seen the Media articles which have been in the Geelong Advertiser, Surf Coast Times and The Echo this week.

We are hopeful of good weather, a great line up of vehicles and a big turn out of spectators.

More Records Broken

Treasurer Graham Gill has emailed to all members the great results from this years Book Fair. The takings were :-

Thursday - $3,910

Friday -      $1,372

Saturday -  $1,296

Sunday -      $ 836

Total          $7,414

Whilst there will be some expenses to come out of this amount and we will be sharing the proceeds with RC of West Geelong, this was a fantastic result which surpassed last years takings by more than $1,000

Many thanks to Ben Smith and his employer Brian Hayden for providing this promotional ad for the Book Fair in last weeks Surf Coast Times.

A great result to Rhonda and her Team of Rotarians, Friends and Family, who assisted with all of the tasks from the Wednesday set up and right through the weekend.

The "Torquay Alco Free and Fun" Team team is doing febfast 2017.

So why not join in the febfast fun!

You can chose to give up Sugar &/or Alcohol

I've just joined febfast 2018, the 28 day health and wellbeing challenge that raises money for disadvantaged youth in Australia.
I'm doing it as part of the Torquay Rotary Zero Alcohol Maximum Fun Team team, and I'm looking forward to kick-starting 2016
with something a little different.

The reason for my email? Well, many hands make light work and I reckon febfast would be easier (and more fun!) if you joined me.

Amanda Hough and Maggie Isom have already joined the Team........so......

What do you say?

To get involved, click ‘Join This Team’ on our Team Page to register.

If you aren't up for the challenge, it would be great if you could sponsor us by making a donation instead.

Cheers!
Greg (Plugga) Plumridge

PS: want to know more about febfast? Check out their website.

Dinner Meeting Registration & Apologies

MEETING APOLOGIES - What do I do?

Notifying someone about changes to your meeting attendance is your responsibility!

Our meetings have catered dinners, so if you are unable to attend a meeting, or if your partner is unable to attend a designated Partner's Night, YOU MUST ADVISE us of your or your partner’s absence.  This also applies if you are attending the meeting but not dining.

There are two ways to do this, either record the information in advance in the "Apology Book" that is available at the book in table at each meeting or telephone 03-5222-2022.  An answering service operates out of hours.
  • All apologies must be made no later than 9.00AM on the Monday of the meeting (unless other arrangements were addressed in the Bulletin).
  • If no apology is recorded by that time, the absentee member will be issued with an invoice to pay the Club the dinner fee of $25 for your non-attendance, and/or that of your partner if it is an official Partner's Night.

  • On "Partners Nights" it is a different arrangement as it will be assumed that your partner WILL BE attending unless you apologise for them!
Remember if you are bringing guests or your partner (to a non-partner night) you need to notify us of the extra number of persons who will be attending.

Absence when away on travel is not an excuse.  It is your reasonability to lodge your apology and it is recommended that this be recorded beforehand in the “Apology Book” to save you remembering each week whilst you are away.
