Hello everyone
Welcome to our new member Terry Charlton and Ita. I am sorry I wasn’t there to welcome you to the club but my welcome is no less sincere. You have been such a supporter for a long time it is truly fantastic to have you as a member.
And apologies everyone for my absence at really late notice. This is the reason why.
Many thanks Amanda for jumping in on my behalf and John for picking up the formalities of inducting Terry and Ita.
No doubt you heard all about the District conference and saw lots of photos. It was full of great information and the dinner was lots of fun. Thank you to all members and partners who attended. Torquay certainly had great representation. Great job Mike Reed and Arthur Reed Photographers for all the photos which you can see
here.
D9810 Ride to District Conference
On Thursday 30th, we catered for the D9810 cyclists riding to their District Conference in Geelong. This was their 31st Annual Ride for Research which has now raised over $1million for Australian Rotary Health.
By way of thanks, they gave us this Certificate of Appreciation.
Donations in Kind Geelong
You may have noticed one of the organisations the Board agreed to support financially this year is Donations in Kind (DIK) Geelong. But you may not know what they do.
DIK is a D9780 programme which accepts donations from organisations and people in our District and from around Victoria – this might be surplus equipment and goods. The goods must be in good condiiton and ready for use. They collect these items, pack them and despatch them overseas to our near neighbours in need. Since they started in 2007, over 250 containers of aid have been shipped overeseas.
In order to understand what might be needed in these overseas communities, DIK actively liaise with these group to understand their need and how they might be assisted.
Volunteers are always welcome at the dept behind Osborne House, Swinburne Street, North Geelong to help with receiving, sorting and packaging the goods donated. Hours are 9am – 12 noon each Tuesday and Wednesday.
You’ll find more information and contact details on the
DIK website.
