Presidents Report No 41

From the President

Bulletin No. 41 – From the President
Hello everyone
I trust you had a happy Easter with friends and family, and a big thank you to everyone who work on the various BBQs over the long weekend.
We are now at the end of our BBQ ‘season’ so I want to take this moment to thank everyone for your contribution.  We know how important the funds we raise by cooking and selling sausages are to our annual bottom line, but it doesn’t happen without a lot of work and commitment from all members.  A special thank you to Mike, Mal, John and Graham for the pivotal roles you played yet again this year in getting us all organised, sending reminders, buying and storing supplies, delivering and setting up the trailer.  Thank you and stay tuned for it all to happen again next year.
Mary Elliott – continuing recognition

Last week I mentioned our post on Facebook about the presentation Mary received from DG Stephen, over coffee, in Torquay.  You will now have seen the article in the Surf Coast Times and Stephen also highlighted Mary’s great achievements in his April DG’s News. Well done Mary – recognition well deserved.
District Assembly – May 7 At Marian College, Ararat
All members are invited to the District Assembly.  In particular new members and incoming Board members really should see this as a great day full of information about Rotary and  the upcoming year. Register online or let PR Gaynor Schols know your intentions and she will be able to help you register.
Shelter Box update
Here are excerpts from the latest ShelterBox News.  Rotarians are invited to subscribe to this newsletter and get ongoing information in your own inbox. You are encouraged to go online and take a look at the amazing relief ShelterBox provides in disaster areas.
Highton Rotary Star Search
Are you a closet singer or other play a musical instrument?  Perhaps now is the time to let everyone hear your talents.  The Highton Rotary Star Search began in 1976 and is open to vocal and instrumental entries from Geelong and surrounding areas.  Vocal auditions are on 26 April and instrumental on 3 May.

The venue this year will be MARIAN COLLEGE, 304 Barkly St ARARAT.

Registration is at 9.30am and we should finish around 3.30pm

It is a good idea to coordinate transport.

So far Rudi, myself and Lesley have registered. Mike Reed is an apology.

Dinner Meeting Registration & Apologies

MEETING APOLOGIES - What do I do?

Notifying someone about changes to your meeting attendance is your responsibility!

Our meetings have catered dinners, so if you are unable to attend a meeting, or if your partner is unable to attend a designated Partner's Night, YOU MUST ADVISE us of your or your partner’s absence.  This also applies if you are attending the meeting but not dining.

There are two ways to do this, either record the information in advance in the "Apology Book" that is available at the book in table at each meeting or telephone 03-5222-2022.  An answering service operates out of hours.
  • All apologies must be made no later than 9.00AM on the Monday of the meeting (unless other arrangements were addressed in the Bulletin).
  • If no apology is recorded by that time, the absentee member will be issued with an invoice to pay the Club the dinner fee of $25 for your non-attendance, and/or that of your partner if it is an official Partner's Night.

  • On "Partners Nights" it is a different arrangement as it will be assumed that your partner WILL BE attending unless you apologise for them!
Remember if you are bringing guests or your partner (to a non-partner night) you need to notify us of the extra number of persons who will be attending.

Absence when away on travel is not an excuse.  It is your reasonability to lodge your apology and it is recommended that this be recorded beforehand in the “Apology Book” to save you remembering each week whilst you are away.
